Upset Special
« on: March 15, 2013, 11:18:48 pm »
Who ya got?  I'm just going to pick one upset per weight.  Don't ask me what I'm smoking... they are called upsets for a reason.  These are upsets that I can see realistically happening even though they aren't all that likely.

125# - Garnett over Megaludis  125 gets interesting long before the finals, and I feel better about Garnett over Mega than I do about McDonough over Delgado.

133# - Dellafave over Conaway  I like picking against PSU.

141# - Lazor over Maple  IFuhr was there in Cedar Falls and I've seen the match.  Long shot for sure, but Lazor can make things happen.

149# - Paddock over Vinson  Let's start big early...

157# - Ivanov over Napoli In Napoli where love is king, when boy meets girl, here's what they say... upset.  Heck, maybe Zilverberg will upset Ivanov first, and then upset Napoli.

165# - Massa over Monk Beginner's luck?

174# - Evans over Storley Seeds don't tell the truth, this would be an upset in my book and I'd love to see it.  If Evans can control his emotions and stay away from stupid mistakes I think he takes it.

184# - Lofthouse over Steinhaus  I think this is less likely than Lazor over Maple even, but the potential is there.  It isn't like things are going to get easier for Lofthouse if he can defeat Steinhaus.

197# - Campolattano over Burak  Well.. more likely than the other Burak getting a first round upset, right?

285# - Telford over Gelogaev  Come on... Iowa has to beat the Russian at least once.

It seems to me that the best place for upsets this year come in the #3 v. #6 match ups in the Quarter Finals on Friday Morning.

I see the following upsets taking place in those match ups:

125   Nashon Garrett over McBono

133  McCormick over Graff

141  Ugi over Mangrum

149  Ness over Vinson

157   Dieringer over Napoli

165   nah!

174  Storley over Evans

184  Loder over Hamlin

197  Gadson over Wilps

285  Nah!

OK - 8/10 is still pretty good!

Friday Morning should be fun!

I like the way you think, Rex!  The only one you missed is Porter over Brown.

Burak from Penn is light years better than the Iowa Burak.  He could win it all, he's already beaten Kilgore.

Stauffer over Evans we don't even get to see the big matchup

So you're predicting Stauffer to beat Storley?

No, Storley wins it.  Stauffer berats Evans in the 3rd round of consolations.  I didn't think that Evans losing to Kelliher is an upset.
