Fantasy MMA idea. Feedback and interest level
« on: July 24, 2013, 10:49:28 AM »
Since I've been slacking on this board from the good old days and because i think the draft is the most fun part of any fantasy league, I thought I'd throw out this idea.  Follow me, and let me know what you think

- Most UFC cards are 12-13 fights, 24-26 fighters.

- Thinking 6 teams made up of 4 fighters per card
- most cards ALL fighters will be on a team.  Yes, you will have people who you don't nesc. want.
- every fight week we will draft on message board
- first event draft would be based on drawing names and a serpentine draft (1-6; 6-1 etc. etc.)
- Points:
 • 0.5 pts for split decision loss (get points even if guy loses but has competitive fight)
 • 1 point win
 • 1.5 pts. unanimous decision win
 • 3 pts for KO, TKO, or submission win
So, you would build your team through a draft based on the above scoring system.  The #1 pick may not nesc. be the best fighter on the card, but who you think may have the biggest mismatch
- next event draft would be in reverse order of points (worst to first) and not a serpentine draft.  worst point total will get first pick in every round.

We can set a season based on any time frame we like.   Draft could be an issue, getting it done in a timely manner for each week.  - Would like to include Belator and other organizations as well but not sure it will have enough fights of somewhat known fighters to work.  Hell there are undercard UFC guys I know jack about anymore

Thoughts?  5 people interested besides myself?  Any ideas or tweaks to help it?

Fairly interested, but only because I'd win.

I'd be in.  We would have to rotate the draft each week though, maybe move everyone back one slot, then 6 goes to 1.

My thought on the draft would be whoever was in last place in points from week 1, would get first pick. So whoever did/doing worst would have first choice and a better chance of getting back in. Last place would always get first pick.  And no serpentine, they would get the first pick every round.  Maybe that is too big of a disadvantage for whoever is top dog.  Only do random draw and serpentine draft on fist event to try and keep as equal as possible.

So if we wanted to start this Saturday draft choices would be:

MAIN CARD (FOX, 8 p.m. ET)
Demetrious Johnson vs. John Moraga - for UFC flyweight title
Jake Ellenberger vs. Rory MacDonald
Robbie Lawler vs. Bobby Voelker
Jessica Andrade vs. Liz Carmouche

PRELIMINARY CARD (FX, 5 p.m. ET)
Michael Chiesa vs. Jorge Masvidal
Danny Castillo vs. Tim Means
Mac Danzig vs. Melvin Guillard
Daron Cruickshank vs. Yves Edwards
Ed Herman vs. Trevor Smith
Germaine de Randamie vs. Julie Kedzie

PRELIMINARY CARD (Facebook, 4 p.m. ET)
Aaron Riley vs. Justin Salas
John Albert vs. Yaotzin Meza

Drafting could actually be pretty hard and involved.

Need 2 more and we could give it a run for Saturday.  A drawback to it is, with just 12 fights/24 fighters only really room for 6 players.  8 for 3 man teams I guess.

I kicked around an MMA fantasy league with a draft of 2 fighters per weight for everyone.  But there are so many fighters and events there would be mass adding and dropping for every event to always have someone fighting.

I'm interested.

OK.  So we'd need one more for a 6 team league.  If we could get 7 more interested we could have an east/west division type thing.  Fighters would get drafted twice, one for each division.

Alright.  We've got a 6 man league.  If we can get 6 more I'd be happy to score that one as well so anyone else interested please keep posting.

Funny, I was just going to text you and ask you to head up a second division for this.
