Title: 2010 Draft
Post by: Cicero on September 28, 2010, 09:09:17 AM
When is this going to happen?  I saw in one thread someone said Oct. 10.  How about instead Oct. 11?  I think more people are likely to be at their computer during the week.  I know I will be away from the computer all day the 10th.

Also, if we are going to have the carry over rule, can we get a list of who all is being held on to from last year?  Might be handy for everyone to know who is already off the table.    Especially since someone like Lost has a pretty tough decision to make on what one person he is going to hold on to.

Cicero who are you keeping from your team?
My choices are...
Oliver
Nauman
Dake
Henrich
K. Smith
I'm really torn on who to keep.

Dake

as bad as my team was last season this is an EASY choice for me.  I'll keep McBono

I don't have a very hard choice really.

I have Sanders, Fil Novachkov, Asper, Simaz and Lane coming back.  I haven't done any research but I'm pretty sure one of them dominates the rest by most measures.

You dont have to keep someone do you Cicero?  Just an option right?

Also, Drooke, while I'd rather not give advice I think I know who I'd keep if I were you, and it's not even close.

Right.  It did occur to me that waiting until the draft or at least until the draft order comes out might make sense for who people are keeping.  There are a few people who have an obvious first round pick, but then Lost and Drooke have at least 2 first round picks on their team from last year.  And then some people it depends on where they are in the order.  Whoever Lost gives up is going to be long gone after I would say the 3rd pick.  I presume Burroughs is a total free agent which makes things interesting.

As for Drooke's conundrum, the stats show a victor but it is relatively close especially considering where the runner-up has a strength.

I want to keep Dake badly, but I'm scared of Cornells coaching practices.

Actually Dake stat-wise is fourth on my list ( I left one of my initial list).  Although he does win tournaments (bonus).

If Oliver were wrestling at 141 It would be a much harder decision.  Now it appears as though he will be be bumping up to 141 from time to time and sitting out of some duals while he gets his weight in control...that will throw a monkey-wrench into scheduling.

Smith is out although he puts up HUGE bonus...because boise wrestles like 5 teams all season.

Nauman and Henrich are money stat wise. Nauman is a pinner and Henrich at least majors almost all of his opponents.

Cicero brought up a good point about the draft order and how that would affect if we kept someone or not.  I say we release the draft order two days before the draft and the day before the draft we have to say if we are keeping someone.....what say all of you?

Once we figure out a date for the draft and who will be in the the league, we will figure out a draft order. I have a random order program that I can put all the names in to make sure that everyone has the same shot at getting the first pick.

I would like to get input into possibly adding other tournaments to the list of scoring tournaments. I don't think that the idea of scoring any and all tournaments will fly, but I would like to see about adding some more(maybe 2-3). If anyone has any ideas, please speak up. For those that weren't involved last season, here is the list of scoring tournaments we used:

Kauffman Brand Open, Las Vegas, Reno, Midlands, Scuffle, Penn State Open, Michigan State Open, NC State Open, Body Bar Invitational, Navy Classic,  the Brockport tournament, the EMU Open, and the Binghamton Open.

Who is on your list for potential saves Nika?

Most of my guys were seniors or no longer on the team(Marion), so in no particular order:

Alan Gelogaev-Okie State(going 285 really intrigues me)
Jamal Parks-Okie State
Billy Ashnault-Rutgers

Yep Z is going to be fun to watch this season.  He is right up there on my list of intriguing weight changes.... Dake, Burroughs, Reader, Miller, Sponsellor, Kinser, and Young (I'm sure I'm missing several those are just off the top of my head).

I would LOVE to see (as you stated earlier) Ashmore beat out Robles for 125...heck it may even be an advantage for Robles to go up a weight as he will be seeing many of them for the first time ever (which imo is a huge advantage).

Post by: AKIN on September 29, 2010, 12:06:24 AM
I really think that Ashmore could do very, very well at 125 and I agree that Robles could do well at 133.

Didn't we agree to allow all tournament matches to score and just give bonus points to the tougher ones?
Title: Re: 2010 Draft

Nothing has been decided yet, but I am thinking that it won't be all tournaments scoring. We might add some, but not open it up to every all tournaments. If you have a tournament that you think should be included, please let us know and we will see if it works.

b]Kauffman Brand Open, Las Vegas, Reno, Midlands, Scuffle, Penn State Open, Michigan State Open, NC State Open, Body Bar Invitational, Navy Classic,  the Brockport tournament, the EMU Open, and the Binghamton Open. [/b]
I suggest we add the Hokeye and Missouri Open, and the NY interschollies

...and psac championships

who is included this year?  and did you catch my edit?
Title: Re: 2010 Draft
Post by: Cicero on October 04, 2010, 08:10:25 AM
I think the Oklahoma Open is a OU, NC State and OCU in duals.
Title: Re: 2010 Draft
Post by: AKIN on October 04, 2010, 04:05:54 PM
Unless they changed the format, it is not duals. You normally get OU, OSU, Central Ok, some Missou kids, and other lower division kids involved. Not a big tourney, I was just throwing it out there.
Title: Re: 2010 Draft
Post by: Cicero on October 04, 2010, 06:48:40 PM
They changed the format last year.  Just duals.  Also why Archie started the OCU Open.

Post by: AKIN on October 04, 2010, 07:05:23 PM
Oh, well screw me!! Never mind. All duals count, so it would be a scoring event.

No need to be so harsh on yourself Akin.   :)

I personally think any tournament should count. You get the wrestler and their schedule, just like real wrestling.

really the only weekend or time I would be unavailable to draft would be around the 22nd I will be moving my sister from Tucson to St Louis.  as I will be driving the Penske truck I somehow think "browsing" and driving may be a bad idea.  I could however create a que if necessary and leave it with V or someone.

This Saturday and the 23rd are bad for me, any other time should be fine.

**EVERYONE IN THE LEAGUE WILL HAVE TO GIVE THEIR CELL PHONE# TO VIRATAS SO THAT YOU CAN BE CONTACTED WHEN IT IS YOUR PICK IN THE DRAFT**

I suggest you have a list of wrestlers(rankings) with you at all times so the draft can move quickly. That way, if you need to text your picks in, you know who you are taking or who has been taken.

We will target the weekend after next (Oct 15th-17th) as the start of this years draft.  Let me know if one of those three days would work better for people then others

I will be at my kids' soccer tournament all that weekend so you'll have to text me when I'm up for picks. All three of my kids will be competing in a big tournament in Salem. V has my number so whoever is in charge of the draft, you can get it from him. I'll make sure I have everything necessary so not to hold up the draft.

Title: Re: 2010 Draft
Post by: AKIN on October 11, 2010, 04:27:58 PM
The draft should start sometime this coming weekend, maybe Sunday evening. There has been a proposal that we throw everyones name into a hat and draw for the rosters of each league. That way we have a mix of guys from last season with the new ones that are wanting in this year. I don't have an issue with this, and I don't have an issue with having one league with the guys from last year and another with the guys that signed up to play this year. What is your opinion. We will be making a decision on this within the next couple of days, so let us know quickly. Thanks.

I never thought about that Bryce, I suppose that would be a concession we would make is that the vets still get a keeper if they want.
Title: Re: 2010 Draft
Post by: AKIN on October 11, 2010, 11:53:33 PM
If we do split up the old league, those guys would still have the option of keeping one wrestler from last season as their 1st round pick.

If the draft is the same as last year, it won't be a one day thing. It took about 8 days to complete. This year with 2 drafts going on, it is going to be very interesting. Once we get the league rosters set, I will be needing a volunteer or two from both leagues to help keep the drafts moving.

I'm doing the draft with my friends right now.  To make things easier to see I made a google spreadsheet to show the rounds and how the teams are coming together.  It is working so far.  Makes it pretty easy to keep track of who is taken.  Just an idea to try and smooth things out with two leagues.

I think something that will help is giving the phone number of the person following and preceeding someone in the draft to people.  so If it's my pick

the guy before me text's that his pick is in
I text back an acknowledgement that it's my turn
I make my pick and text the guy behind me
the guy behind says he knows it's his turn
he makes his pick and texts the guy behind him
etc etc etc.

it's difficult for me to jump online sometimes on the weekend if I'm busy so there's no way i can miss my turn this way.  as opposed to constantly looking online to see if it's my turn

Everyone in the draft will need to get their cell number or best way to contact them to V before the draft. He will get in touch with whoever is up. The biggest thing is everyone needs to be responsible for keeping up with the status of the draft and when their pick is coming up. I understand we all have stuff going on, but it doesn't take a ton of effort to keep up. I will do my best to keep both drafts moving along as quickly as I can, but I will need help from all of you.

I agree whole heartedly -EVERY school schedules 2-3 pud quads and if your guy breaks his leg in an unscored tournament THAT sure as hell will count . IF you are wrestling you are wrestling .
