Title: Too much off time after WTT?
Post by: crablegs on June 29, 2009, 10:32:14 PM
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before or not, but the coverage of the upcoming Russian nationals got me thinking.  Are our World Team Trials too early? and do we have to long of a lay off before the worlds?

The Russian National tournament will be coming up soon in early July.  Our WTT were a full month earlier.  Could this off time cause our guys to lose a competition level of sharpness.  To me it seems like a long lay off to expect to come back and compete at the toughest tournament in the world.

What do you guys think?

It has its positives and negatives.  It would be nice if the guys could get another competition in earl july for more match experience, but I'm sure they don't want to make weight.  I like the fact that our guys can bond in the world team camp before Russia even has its team.  Since our guys seem to have more to learn, they probably need the extra practice time with zeke

I think our wrestlers will be flat as a pancake at the Worlds.  Whatever it is that we have going the last several years, it isn't working.  Bring back the 80's and early 90's when we had medal threats at most every weight and at least 3 Gold threats.

They're at the Canada Cup right now so it's not as if they are doing nothing but V should have some worthy comments on the subject.

I guess I didn't know about the Canada Cup.  I haven't seen any kind of coverage of it.  Is it an actual tournament with weigh ins, and does the whole U.S. team compete?

Yes, it's the real deal. Don't know if they are doing the camp as well but all the men and women are there now. Haven't been able to find coverage yet.

The U.S. World Freestyle Team will leave July 5 and spend two weeks in Baku, site of the 2007 World Championships. The trip will culminate with the Heydar Aliyev Golden Grand Prix tournament on July 19 in Baku.
