Haselrig didn't qualify as a freshman (3rd in DII, I believe...) and then went on to win  three straight titles in both DII and DI.

Does that mean the winner's pay-out is equal to the entry fee?

College / Sweetest move that wrestler ends up being scored on....

...would be Ness's lateral of Martinez.

Crazy thing was that after Ness drills him, not only does Ness NOT score but Martinez actually rolls through so quick and scores the takedown himself.

THAT was impressive!

I know that move is illegal if you kick behind the knee....Isaac was pretty slick how he kicked the ankle but then turned in right away.

Kind of a grey area but looked away to me.....

Damian Hahn beating Jon Trenge with a takedown in the last 3 seconds.

I saw the movie and I didn't like it, either.  I took two of my sons ( 18 and 15) and they didn't like it.

I kept thinking that if people who see the movie have no understanding of wrestling, they're going to find the movie creepy, as well.

That's funny....and pretty accurate.

The officials are friends, somewhat - they  are hanging out for a few days at these tournaments so they are socializing a bit.

I think that makes it even LESS likely that the 2nd official would overturn a call.

You just took 4 out of 47 and reduced it to 0 for 47......

That's a formidable list....especially when you factor in the fact that he also beat Howe in the semis just to get to Burroughs.

Whoever that old man who turned him in is needs to stop snitching.

Yeah, because that's SOOOOOOOO much more serious than a 20 year-old college athlete with eligibility still remaining using illegal drugs the day after a big meet...... ::)

I like the idea of review, but has anyone ever seen a call overturned from video review?  I haven't.  It did seem like possibly a couple "no calls" could have been take downs after you reviewed them from the ESPN camera angles.  And why do they always say " The refs are not looking at our camera angles.  They have their own camera".  Is ESPN camera angles not good enough?  Let us see what the refs see if theirs is "better".  I think they should have a camera angle from above looking down on the mat just like they now have in the NFL.  That would provide a different perspective.

I thought the referee initially awarded Garrett the first takedown against Delgado but then after the video review, they changed it...?

And my memory is foggy, but did it happen on Garrett's second double leg, also???

College / Re: Garrett non takedown....

This versus the non-stop hand fighting where nobody does anything, except for the occasional shoot them off the mat or get a stalemate and then not even that,  save for a serious flurry late in a period, and then when one gets a lead does everything possible to get a little riding time and then hang on to the lead, knowing refs won't call stalling, and if you at least look busy all is good?

I'm not a fan of that, either.

A guy who at least gets it on the mat, takes even bad shots (it would seem a good wrestler could do something with a bad shot) and initiates action gets called out?

Delgado initiated the action against Garrett?  I don't think so.  Delgado is a great wrestler - don't get me wrong.  But he has still perfected his tactics to artfully disguise the fact that he is wrestling for stalemates and looking to win with one and only one takedown - at least that's what I saw in the finals.
