Sorry, I am not a fan of the article. Poor taste imo. It was good as a forum subject but not an official TOM article.

High School & Lower / NJ States
« on: March 04, 2018, 10:51:07 AM »
Anyone else following. I was supposed to be in AC but they cancelled my flight due to the weather. So I am watching as much as I can at home. Bummer.

My predictions

106 Olivieri - I had him winning since he dropped down.
113 Alvarez - Clark and Alvarez are so evenly matched and Clark is so good at close matches. But I think Alvarez scores in OT for the win.
120 Howard - love Polito but Howard is on a mission.
126 Glory - Heilman gives him a match though.
132 Slendorn - Revanno gives a decent match.
138 Kinner - Great match of state champs. Benner can win it from top position. But Kinner is too sound.
145 Cabanillas over Bennett
152 coin flip. Going with Corrigan.
160 Griffin -This will be a very close match. Kanniard is having a great run this season. Griffin is good at close matches. He is a bit banged up though from semis.
170 O Malley will not be denied. Kid filled out so well. Too strong. I love Foca and how he wrestles. It will be entertaining as always. But O Malley has his number.
182 McKenzie over Janzer. Great match. McKenzie is very explosive and athletic. He will make something happen. Hey look at his workout partners to get prepared.
195 Cardenas by a blowout. Possible tech. Cardenas is 16 yr old junior, just finished a growth sprout. Still wrestles like a 152 pounder. Wustefield is very good but not enough tools to keep it close. Cardenas gets OW
220 Acciardi - Little Rollie is just full of offense. Explossive little guy. Leka wont have enough offense to catch up.
Hwt Fernandez over Wood.

International / Burroughs & Taylor after World Cup
« on: February 17, 2017, 06:05:07 PM »
  This must be discussed.

Taylor just beat (2) gold medalist by fall. I am upset Yazadani didn't challenge Burroughs but now happy it didn't happen. Its shows that we have depth. And it shows Taylor kept with it and has arrived internationally big time. He is morphing into Cael in so many ways. If he shaved his beard and his head, they would be twins. Taylor is like Cael but with better scrambling. And he has no quit.

Burroughs seemed to conserve energy more than usual. He does not seem as agile and fast as he has in the past. Not only is Jordan being well scouted,  but you can only dominate for so long with athleticism. He is still very game and very technical,  but he lost a step. He seems mortal again. I have a tough time seeing him get "it"  back. That mojo he carried. He is still better than 98-99% of the competition,  but he can lose at any given moment.

So I have to wonder. Can Taylor beat out Cox or should he drop down again since Burroughs is mortal again. But then Dake has dropped as well. Its tough. Now that Taylor has the e mojo,  I could see him besting Burroughs. But as usual,  not sure he beats Dake. So many tough decisions.

Off-Topic / Mark Schultz

Anyone know more about Mark Schultz and how he is doing? I just heard he has some infection that attacked his spine and now his brain.

College / The Wolfpack deserve recognition

 NC State 19 Nebraska 15

The NC State was thought to be overrated because they do not have a Big 10 schedule. However, this victory over Nebraska cements them as a legitimate top 5 team imo.

This caught most of us by surprise. I am glad to see ACC teams getting legitimacy in the national scene.

I thought he was doing well in his fight. Very sad.

College / Minnesota down Rutgers 17-16

Ashnault loses to Thorn 8-1. Ouch
Ashnault was exposed by Jack. He is not good from the bottom. He was ridden hard for 3 min giving up back points.

Lewis and Hrymack being out of the Rutgers lineup cost them.

High School & Lower / Beast of the East results Suriano vs Karam
« on: December 20, 2015, 05:21:16 PM »
Suriano pins Karam in the finals. He powered through a single driving Karam to the mat and to his back. Got the fall halfway through the first period. Pretty impressive. Karam is a beast. Suriano is something else,

Forget about party affiliation. Just a curious question.

College / Scarlet Knights wrestle off tomorrow
« on: October 23, 2015, 08:35:41 PM »
I wish I was able to attend the wrestle offs. I want to see the Delvechio vs Giraldo match. Giraldo is something special. RU, are you going to be there?

Off-Topic / I refuse to say "potty". Sorry
« on: July 12, 2015, 06:40:23 PM »
I was over the house of another couple couple. They told my daughter that the potty is down the hall. She looked at them like they had a third head. As soon as I noticed what was going on, I interpreted for my daughter. I told her the bathroom is down the hall. My daughter was relieved because she obviously understood that. I winded up having a discussion with the parents that the term potty is not used in my home. I never heard the term until I was in college. I thought it was a cute way of saying party. The couple thought I was from another planet.

When I grew up, that term was not used. At least not in the part of NJ I grew up in. I taught my kids to use the bowl. And they graduated to toilet bowl. Am I really from another planet?

Mixed Martial Arts / AKA most injury prone mma gym?
« on: April 30, 2015, 12:55:41 PM »
I got to thinking about all the injury prone fighters at AKA. A lot of them are knee injuries. I realize all fighters get hurt. But to be injury prone, or requiring so many surgeries? These are about training injuries, not fight injuries.

Luke Rockhold has had one of the most injury prone mma careers. He is a AKA lifer.

Josh Thomson has battled knee injuries for the past 7 years or so. It has kept his activity extremely low as far as fighting.

Dan Cormier battled a couple knee injuries already in the short time he has been with AKA.

Cain Velazquez, what can I say?

Khabib Nurmogedov has had a few knee injuries already in the short time he has been at AKA. Already a bad sign.

Mike Swick had a few injuries. He had a concussion during training one of the times.

Let me know if I am missing.

High School & Lower / Anyone following NJ states?

Lots of well contested weight classes.

Mixed Martial Arts / UFC 180
« on: November 15, 2014, 03:43:56 PM »
Surprisingly, I am pumped for this event. I believe there is going to be sparks flying in the undercard. I watched the weigh ins as I always do and I try to get a peak of each fighters psyche by just the way they present themselves. I see a lit of confident, anxious fighters with some extra flare to add to the mix. I liked one of the fighters and I see a spark of a potential star. I need to rewatch to get his name.

The best fight of the night is easily Lamas vs Bermudez. They are both extremely likeable, that I hate to see a loser. But there is no doubt they will bring it. How that fight is not the co-main event is beyond me.

Mixed Martial Arts / Its been reported, Shane Del Rosario passed away
« on: November 28, 2013, 05:12:31 PM »
This is unreal. He was once considered the #1 hwt prospect. He had a cardiac arrest at age 30. He has some of the craftiest BJJ and some of the best muay tai in the hwt division. He was hit by a drunk driver a few years ago, and it nearly ended his career. Who knows what he could have accomplished had he not been in the accident. Then he has a heart attack at age 30 and it has been reported that he has passed this afternoon. I was a huge fan of Shane.
