Well it is the oldest sport. Clearly He must have been the first wrestler.

I think you may have something there. Check out Genesis 32:24-30.

In case you haven't been over to the TOM home page lately, Earl Smith has an article up with a long list of interesting facts about the tournament. Here's a small sample.

For the first time, two unrelated champions had the same last name.
Of the eight AA's at 285, six came from Big Ten schools.
Gannon Gremmel (Iowa State) was the only AA to come from the state of Iowa.
Missouri was the only team with two true freshman AA's.
Missouri was the only team with three wrestlers that fell in the Round of 12.
For the first time, a #33 seed became an AA.
Oklahoma State was the only team with three AA's who had double-digit seeds.
For the first time, a team with four champions did not win the team title.
Penn State has had at least one champion every year since 2011.

Here are a couple I think he missed (actually, guesses on my part):

For the first time, a champion wrestled in the final without an ACL.
For the first time, a champion came from a school whose wrestling program is being eliminated.

I like them, except for the blue ones.

Just go to, go to Events, go to Search events, put in NCAA for the name and last week for the time and it should be there.

Hey, that works. But I like RYou's link better. I can scroll to all ten weights without having to click a bunch of selections.

P.S.  Thanks to RYou for posting a link to the brackets. They're not available at Trackwrestling any longer.

Maybe we used different definitions.

The definition is obvious for a wrestler who placed. I hadn't heard of a standard definition for wrestling above seed for one who didn't place, so I made up my own definition. I said he wrestled above seed if his two losses were to wrestlers seeded better than him.

I just thought about it some more and decided a better definition would require him also to beat at least one opponent he was supposed to lose to. By that definition, OKST had 2 even, 6 above, 1 below.

mspart left out 125 Mastrogiovanni  Above

OKST - 2 even to seed, 5 above seed, 1 below seed

I only worked it out for OKST, and I had them with 1 below (133), 1 even (149), and 7 above (their other 7 weights).  Maybe we used different definitions. Which weight did you have even besides 149, and at which one of their weights did you not have a seeding result?

Those days also were exciting for me. Am I too easily excited? I don't think so. I can use all the excitement I can get.

No, you got it right

What I got is that you believe every member of that family is a jerk, and your reason for believing that is that they are all ginzos. I'm glad at least that I got something right.

Other Sports / A Good Day for College Sports Fans

Today (Sunday) was an exciting day for me in college sports. I started the day off watching a first-round game of the women's basketball NCAA Championship, with No. 8 seed OkState taking on No. 9 seed Wake Forest in the San Antonio Regional on ESPN2. OkState won 84-61, aided by a 27-point 15-rebound performance by Natasha Mack, who stands 6'4" and has a 6'11" wingspan. I'm afraid the Cowgirls will need a lot of luck to beat No. 1 seed Stanford in their next game on Tuesday.

The basketball game didn't end up being close, but a lot more drama was provided in baseball by the live-streamed rubber game of a 3-game series in Lubbock between No. 9 OkState and No. 4 Texas Tech. Going into the top of the 9th inning, Texas Tech led 6-3. The Cowboys were down to their last out after getting a single and hitting into a double play. After a single, hit batter, several walks, and two pitching changes, OkState had scored two runs and loaded the bases. I was pulling hard for the comeback, but it wasn't to be. The Cowboy DH came up to bat and struck out, giving Texas Tech the 6-5 win. At least the f‌inal inning kept me on the edge of my chair right to the end.

Throughout the day, I was also following the Mountain View Collegiate women's golf tournament in Tucson. At the start of today's final round, No. 31 Texas and No. 8 OkState were atop the leader board, with Texas ahead by eight strokes. Each time I checked the leader board, the Cowgirls had narrowed the gap a little more. When it was over, Texas had faded to even par and the Cowgirl team had scored 10 under par on the day, giving them the title by two points. The Cowgirls' Maja Stark took the individual title with an 11-under 205, tied for the second lowest in tournament history.

That wasn't the day's only golf. I also followed the OkState men's team in Arizona's N.I.T. at Tucson National's Catalina Course. At the start of today's final round, OkState and OU were atop the leader board, with the Cowboys ahead by three strokes. The Sooners soon pulled ahead by one stroke, and the two teams traded the lead throughout the round. At the end, OkState took the title with a 4-stroke lead. I think the Cowboys No. 8 ranking will improve with this win over the No. 2 Sooners, No. 6 Texas (3rd place) and No. 4 Illinois (5th place).

March Madness gave me my final viewing opportunity of the day, when No. 4 seed OkState took on No. 12 seed Oregon State in the second round of the Midwest Regional. Oregon State was coming off its first ever Pac-12 Tournament championship and its first March Madness victory since 1982, but couldn't be taken lightly, having beaten No. 5 seed Tennessee, 70-56, last Friday night. The Beavers kept their upset streak alive with an 80-70 win over the Cowboys, who had hoped to reach their first Sweet 16 since 2005.

All in all it was a good sports day, with a sad ending for me, but a happy one for the Oregon State fans.

I must have misunderstood what you meant by "family of jerks" and "boorish ginzo Long Island family".

I guess I was somewhat close. Am I right in assuming you don't like Ferrari's sisters because they are ginzos? ( I don't hear ginzo in my part of the country, but I learned about it at

RYou, I got the idea you don't like Ferrari's family, and I assumed it was because Ferrari and his mom and dad and four siblings all have first names that start with A. But it's more likely that you've met and talked with all of them and didn't like what you heard. Am I close?

I missed the finals. Too bad. I REALLY wanted to see ferraris dad again. What was he doing and wearing? Somebody please let me know.

Ferrari's dad was on the screen for about 4 seconds during the match, and about 10 seconds afterward when Ferrari ran up into the stands and hugged him. Sorry, I didn't pay any attention to his attire. Maybe he'll show up at the medal ceremony and you can see him then.

What was your take on the tournament? I thought ESPN did a good job with the coverage. I had a TV next to my laptop so I could watch the TV broadcasts and bring up two ESPN+ streams, to get a page with the multiview of all eight mats, and another page with the individual bout I wanted to watch at the time. I also had a page with Trackwrestling so I could keep up with the scoring and brackets. I got a lot of enjoyment out of all three days of the action.

I had seen a few projections with OkState getting a 6th place team finish, and I was hoping they would do better. My only reason for pessimism was mspart's analysis of the Big 12 tournament, and his suggestion that OkState's wrestlers have trouble wrestling up to their seeds. I wanted to see how that worked out this time, and came up with the following:

          Seed    Finish
125     #21     DNP, lost to #12 and #19
133     #1      #2
149     #4      #4
157     #33     #8
165     #10     #4
174     #18     DNP, lost to #2 and #16
184     #11     #5
197     #4      #1
285     #29     DNP, lost to #4 and #9

The way I figure it, the only failure to wrestle up to seed was at 133. But Fix's 21.0 team points were a major contributor to the satisfaction I got from seeing OkState finish in 3rd place. I was also relieved that the only wrestler I heard about getting punished for bad language was not one of OkState's guys.

I hope everyone enjoyed watching the tournament as much as I did. I would be happy for anyone else to post a seeding performance chart like mine for their favorite team.
