if that were the case, you would be "LEP" and be referred to as "Lepers".

it's a good point horatio,

if you take into consideration that iowa wrestling and nc basketball are the penultimate programs.

when you realize that psu finished out of the top 10 as many (5) times in sunderlands 11 years as they did in something like the 40 years prior to his reign, you gotta consider that a major hiccup.

what im saying is, it's ok to go with the 'family' philosophy when that family proves successful, but in psu's case it really hasn't. (McCoy is largely unproven, imo.)

but iowa has success stories all over the D1 map.

this is a make or break decision for psu in my eyes. if the hire a big name, the talent will go there and they can hopefully get back some prestige. if not, we may be looking at a big ten afterthought or at least continued pedestrian performance for a state talented enough that mediocrity shouldn't be accepted for it's flagship institution.

I'll start off by saying i want Brands. b/c Brands + PA talent = awesome.

but here's the problem/s:

psu operates under a sort or nepotism when it comes to hiring coaches. they always like to hire alums or someone previously associated with the university. which doesn't make much sense for two reasons 1) hire the best damn guy for the job and 2) on the academic side of things, universities like to hire faculty (professors) from other proven programs to get new blood/philosophies into their department.

and here's another major one, which i never see brought up. you may find it incredible, as i did, but it was confirmed by a good # of people close to psu, that the staff does NOT run their camps independently. it all goes through the university. that means way less money to fund the program. not so much the HC, but the ability to pay assisstants decently, the ability to pay wrestlers a wage that can offset school costs while allowing them to stick around for the summer to work the camps and train.

imo, this could be  decent-sized deterant for the position.

i actually prefer this 'flat' method. for me, it makes things much more linear and comprehendable. but i can understand those who like the other format.

i've been on sites where you have the option of viewing it in either format by clicking a button. not sure how difficult that would be though.

Hey folks, im making the transition to theopenmat and making it my permanant home. don't know why it took so long as all my boys were on here from the start. maybe just a fidelity to the familiar, like throwing out an old sweater.

themat has clearly run its course. im not gonna get into specifics; you guys know the deal. so i've made the very conscious decision to talking wrestling, etc. with more informed people in a more rational and dedicated setting.

i have some wrestling projects in the works and am hoping to get on board with V and and having some fun with y'all.

sensei--"teach me!"

ps--sorry, should have posted this in the refugees board
