Off-Topic / Movies, The Drop and Lucy

I miss James Gandolfini.  Born for these kinds of roles.

Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini run a bar that is also a money drop for Chechen mob.  Honestly I don't want to say much more than that, better to go into it not knowing.

Really enjoyed the flick but it's my kind of film.  A bit slow in it's pacing at times, but always has you wondering what is really going on.  Great performance out of Tom Hardy.

Bryce will hate it (not enough transforming and exploding); IG will like it.  I'd give it 4 out of 5 on the Fuhr-o-meter.

Lucy:

Hot girl gets in over her head.  Ends up tapping into the untapped percentages of the brain.

Bryce will love Lucy (see what I did there) lots of pretty colors, explosions, people dying, unexplained things done at a frenetic pace.  It looks good, and if you're not in the mood to be challenged it's worth a watch, but as badly as I wanted to really love it, I couldn't get much past "meh"

2.5 out of 5.

during the Dallas GB game are a big reason why I care less and less about the NFL.  Just a nonsense rule or interpretation of a rule negating what was a player making a play.  Just dumb.  I'm not a fan or either team, in fact dislike both squads on most Sundays, but the players in neutral uniforms and show that play to anyone who knows football, watches it at all, and ask them what the call is.  Just effin' stupid.

Any else round here watch this yet per chance?  Very different, but enjoyable.  Explores the possibilities of an infinite number of realities.   Bryce will hate it.   :D

Off-Topic / Watched Boyhood last night. Attempted no spoilers
« on: January 08, 2015, 01:26:13 PM »
I've been fascinated with the concept since I heard about it.  If you're not familiar Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused amongst many other things) filmed the picture over 13 years following one boy growing up in Texas.  Same cast of characters for 13 years makes for quite interesting aging over 2:45 (long sumbitch).

Well acted, directed, scripted, shot, etc. etc.  Love the idea and the originality behind it.  Would give it a positive grade if I were writing a review.  All that said, I can't see ever having the desire to watch it again.  It was, for the most part, an exercise in patience as you watched a kid from 5 to 18 and the stages of life.  It wasn't "boring" but at the same time, there was very little in terms of an "exciting" moment - much like life I guess.  That's not to say there wasn't drama and emotion, there was and it was very realistic IMO.  Just a very different animal when it comes to modern flicks.

I'm cheering for DC but I worry Jones will be able to keep him at distance with kicks and jabs.

Fitch vs. Palhares as well on WSOF.

Nate diaz missed weight by over 4 lbs.  I assume he is trying to get cut, so he can go work for Coker and Belator.   :D
