First, let me say that it was an interesting read and a reasonable proposal, IMO.
That said, I think the basic premise of having a dual championship after the traditional NCAA tournament is flawed. Any hybrid model, again IMO, would be better off to have a dual tournament that awards either team points or qualifiers to teams for the championship tournament as it stands now. The biggest reason for this is that the final matches of the NCAA wrestling season should always be the top-20 individuals in the sport battling for glory. There is no better way to finish and asking our athletes to come back off of that massive success or utter dissapointment and get up again for a team championship is just a bad idea.
As to the specifics of JB's proposal, the one thing I had a big problem with other than order of events is having the top-16 teams at the individual tournament qualify. At that level we are talking about teams that are seperated by very few points (11-20 last year was seperated by 8 points, 4 teams outside the top 16 were one extra default away from at least tieing for 16th) which raises the real possibility of someone qualifying for the tournament because of a medical forfeit or some other fluke event. When you add conference affiliations into the mix it seems to me that the chance for conspiracy and controversy is much too great.

We need to decide what we're doing with these. They occur the day before the Big 12 tournament. I am against including them in conference scores due to WC considerations, but they should count for something. Can we lump them in with the week before?

College / Getting to a 9th place match

I've seen some weird suggestions being thrown around about how to do this, but it should be easy enough. There will be 4 guys who lose the round before placing top 8. You match those guys up in a 4 man bracket. The winner is 9th. The loser of the "finals" is 10th.

College / Will Penn St score 150+ points at NCAAs?

Penn State looks downright scary right now. It has me thinking more about how much they could score than whether or not they'll win. So, where do you think they'll land? The last team to crack 150 was Oklahoma State in 2005 (with 5 champions). I think Penn St has a shot, but they may not have enough depth. 4 champs with bonus could get them to 100, but can Megaludis, Alton, McIntosh and Wade get them the rest fo the way (and can they get 133 and 141 through to NCAAs to win a match or two)?

Barring an epic collapse, my team is headed for NCAAs. So, I'd like to improve my NCAA tournament line-up. If you need a big conference week to get in to NCAAs, perhaps we can work something out. Since my access is limited right now, I can't do as much research as I'd like, but if you see a possible trade that might strengthen me come NCAAs and help you out during Conference week, please feel free to send me a PM.

High School & Lower / The most useful Masters for a coach.

I'm expected to get a Masters degree while I'm in the Air Force. Its pretty much a requirement if I want to progress past Captain. I haven't decided how far I'd like to go yet, but I'm getting started on it, just in case. Since my post-Air Force plan includes coaching wrestling at either the high school or college level, I want to get a degree that will make that transition simpler and serve me well. So, what should I get? What should I consider?

College / Some thoughts on Byers to Oklahoma State

Odd turn of events since it looked like he would be a Hawkeye and now it seems that he is a Cowboy. Things could still change, but the information seems solid. It certainly answers the biggest question mark in the line-up for next year. Rosholt put in an admirable effort last year at HWT, but I don't see him having any chance to beat Byers (and if it did turn out that I'm wrong about that, well then it would mean Rosholt is much, much better than I thought and thats a plus too). It should be all in pursuit of 2nd place if Penn St doesn't struggle, but it gives the Cowboys a chance to be a special team. Will they be? Recent history suggests injury and dissapointment will strike somewhere in the line-up, but with one more weapon taking the mat the margin for error and potential upside grows. The off-season is a great time to hope and predcit greatness for everyone. Its a pleasent dream to watch 10 Cowboys wrestle on Saturday of NCAAs 2012.
