Couldn't agree more. Wish they'd just do it already.

It seems like dividing up the WWC and making them affiliate members of the Big 12 and Pac 12 is the easiest answer.  Keep the name, make them bigger and tougher.

Easier said than done. The Big 12 has no affiliate members in any sport, currently.

Which you would think with as much success they've had in wrestling, they'd want to at least get a couple of affiliates versus losing their conference altogether.

Doesn't work like that. The entire conference system has to sign off on it, not just one sport. Conferences that accept affiliates are more apt to add them vs. ones who have no history of them.

Yes, but the new COMMISH is a wrestler who coached at UNI and was the AD at Stanford which has a non traditional team wrestling conference. I think one of two things will happen in the near future.

1. UNI, Missou, and maybe the Dakota teams and Wyo and AFA will join the Big XII as wrestling members
or
2. The NCAA goes to 4 regional qualifiers, and the teams get spilt evenly ala the basketball tourny.

Perhaps I should have said most logical answer.  Although I do think this is the easiest thing that pleases the most people.  Other than Mizzou being one of the affiliates, I'm not sure why anyone would be vehemently against it just because it hasn't happened before.

It's not about being against it, but some conferences have bylaws that are strict when it comes to affiliate membership. You can't just change those bylaws for one sport without a complete vote of all the presidents, AD's, etc.

I'm not against the Big 12 having affiliates, I'm just explaining the sport of wrestling doesn't drive the decision making of any conference. The bylaws are there. We're seeing this right now with the CAA and the member schools leaving and what the conference bylaws say about them leaving.

JB, isn't the CAA having a meeting about this as we speak?

as for Mizzou, from what i hear (which really doesn't mean much; it's all hearsay) the Big XII is salty enough at Mizzou to not allow them in as an affiliate member.

ive also heard of a conference realignment that, should it come to pass, would be pretty neat.
