2013/2014 League Rules

League Structure
A) Thou Shalt Not Change the Rules Mid-season.

B) Each team will have 16 wrestlers. Each week, you may start 11 wrestlers: one at each weight class and one "flex" wrestler of your choice who will receive points regardless of which weight he wrestles.  All rosters must be down to 16 members by midnight of the first day of the first week of competition.

Competition/How to Win
Competition is not head-to-head. Instead, every week, your team's points (see "Scoring" below for details) will be added to your cumulative total. Cumulative scoring ends after conference championship week. At this point, the top teams make it to "the playoffs," which is really just the NCAA Tournament. For the playoffs, the cumulative scores are disregarded, and whichever player accrues the most points during the NCAA Tournament wins the league.

A) Posting Your Lineup. Weeks will begin on Friday and end on Thursday. Every week, the commissioner will open a thread wherein all lineups must be posted by midnight (Central Time) Thursday night. If your lineup is not posted by this deadline, your lineup from the previous week will be used. No exceptions.

B) Making the Playoffs. The top 5 cumulative scorers from the Regular Season will qualify for the Championship Bracket. In addition, the player who scores the most points in conference week who would not otherwise have qualified will be awarded a playoff spot. A total of six teams will make the playoffs.  All players that do not qualify for the playoffs can still post their lineups for entrance in "The Loser's Bracket."

C) Prizes
i) Championship Bracket. The winner of the Championship bracket receives eternal glory as the league's champion. His name shall be posted for eternity in the Hall of Glory.
ii) The winner of nationals will receive $190 2nd place at nationals will receive $80 and third place will get his entry fee back.
iii) Loser's Bracket. The winner of the Loser's Bracket wins the right to assign a signature to the last place finisher from the Championship Bracket.

D) Non-Participation. Any owner who does not post his lineup on time 4 times throughout the season may be stripped of his team at the discretion of the commissioner. The commissioner may choose to give control of that team to someone else.

A) Regular Season Scoring
i) Points will be awarded as follows: Pin - 6; Tech - 5; Major - 4; Decision - 3; Forfeit - 6; Medical Default - 6; Injury Default - 6; DQ - 6.
a)Advancement points will only be counted in the round your wrestler receives a bye if that wrestler wins his next match.  In the championship bracket a wrestler will be awarded two points for the round he had a bye if he wins the following match.  In the consolation bracket a wrestler will be awarded one point for the round he had a bye if he wins the following match.
Pigtail rounds will not count when addressing byes.  For the purpose of our league there needs to be at least three matches in a round for it to be considered a round.  If there are less than three matches they will be considered pigtails and no advancement points will be awarded.
ii) Points will only be awarded at the weight class listed for the wrestler when you posted your lineup. For example, if you listed your wrestler at 133 but he bumps up to wrestle 141, you won't get any points. The "flex" wrestler is the exception to this rule and will be awarded points no matter what weight class he wrestles.
iii) Dual Meets. All dual matches will be scored.
iv) Tournaments. All tournaments will be scored.  Two advancement points for byes will be scored if your wrestler wins his next round match on the championship side.  If in the consolation side of the bracket he will only recieve one point if he wins his match after a bye.
v) Bonus Tournaments. *Champions of Midlands, CKI, and the Southern Scuffle will receive 10 bonus points. Runners up at these tournaments will receive 5 bonus points, and third place finishers will receive 3 bonus points.
vi) The NWCA All-Star Classic will be scored. Both the "Main Event" and the "Side Card" qualify. Five (5) points will be awarded for participating in the event.
vii) Conference Tournaments count as part of the regular season. However, wrestlers who win the Big 10 tournament will get 15 bonus points added to their scores, those finishing second will get 10 bonus points, and those finishing in third place will receive 5 bonus points. The guys who win OW at the Big Ten tournament will also get 5 bonus points. All other conferences will have bonuses of 10 points for a championship, 5 points for a second, and 3 points for third. The conference "week" consists of the two weeks that make up the the conference portion of the college wrestling season. You will make one lineup to start for both weeks. Any duals wrestled in the conference week will be added to the previous weeks totals.  Example:  The Big Twelve duals are wrestled the day before the Big Twelve Tournament but will NOT count in the conference weeks scoring.  Those points will be added to the previous weeks scoring, thus not eligible to be used for the "wild card" selection into the playoffs.

B) Playoff Scoring
i) The playoffs are really a one-event deal, with that event being the NCAA Championships. Teams making the playoffs will have their scores reset, and the whoever generates the most points at NCAAs wins.
ii) Bonuses will be awarded as follows: OW - 3; Gorrarian - 2.

Wrestler Acquisition
Wrestlers may be acquired in 3 different ways: The draft, free agency, and trading.

A) The Draft
i) Draft Order. The draft order will be determined by the reverse order of finish from the previous season.
ii) Draft Execution. Because this league is carried out over a message board, the draft is kind of tricky. We will have the draft in October, and it will probably take a week or so. Basically, when it's your turn, someone will text/call/voxer you to let you know. At that point you will have a time window to make your pick by posting it on here or by phone/text/etc. This way, if you are at work/school, you will have time to make your pick.

B) Keeping A Wrestler.
As a reward for good drafting, GM's may elect to retain one wrestler from one year to the next, provided that the wrestler is eligible.
i) Eligibility. To keep a wrestler, you must have drafted him (and not traded for him or picked him up out of free agency) the previous year, kept him on your roster the entire season. Wrestlers drafted in the first or second rounds are not eligible to be retained.
ii) Cost of Keeping a Wrestler. The retained wrestler will cost a draft pick, the round of which will be two rounds higher than the wrestler was drafted the previous year. For example, if someone were to draft Joe Schmoe in the 7th round this year, they would be able to keep him in lieu of their 5th round pick the following year, and the 3rd round after that, and the 1st round after that. This is why wrestlers originally drafted in the first or second rounds are not eligible to be retained.

C) Free Agency/Waiver
Each owner can claim up to 10 wrestlers from free agency/waivers throughout the season (known as the free agent quota). In order to do so, the owner must drop another wrestler from his roster. Claims are placed by posting in the "Free Agency/Waivers" thread.
i) Free Agency. Any wrestler not on a roster or waivers (see below) is a free agent. A free agent may be claimed at any time on a first-come, first-serve basis.
ii) Waivers. Whenever an owner drops a wrestler from his roster, that wrestler will be placed on waivers for 3 days. At the end of this period, whichever owner who wants the wrestler and has the highest waiver priority will "win" the wrestler. This owner will then move to the bottom of the waiver priority list. Initially, the waiver priority order will be the reverse of the draft order (aka reverse alphabetical order). If no one claims the wrestler in the waiver period, the wrestler will fall into the free agency pool.

D) Trading
i) Getting a trade approved. After you negotiate a trade, post it for approval. For the most part, trading is allowed freely. However, any trade deemed detrimental to the spirit of competition will be rejected. The commissioner reserves the right to reject any and all trades.
ii) Overturning commissioner trades. Trades involving the commissioner may be overturned by rejecting votes from 4 league members who believe the trade is detrimental to the spirit of competition.
iii) Deadline. No trades will be allowed after February 14, 2013, at midnight Central Time.
iv) Multi-wrestler trades. If you trade and that leaves you with only 14 wrestlers, adding another wrestler from the free agent pool will count against your free agent quota. If a trade leaves you with 16 wrestlers, you must drop a wrestler, but this transaction will not affect your quota.
v) Add/Drops. Free agent add/drops may be traded as reasonable consideration.

E) Entry Fee
i) There will be a $30 entry fee.
