Weird Al Yankovic - R&R HOF worthy?
« on: October 13, 2013, 01:38:18 PM »
What do you think?

My son found his song parody of Star Wars on youtube and he been repeating it all morning.

Got me thinking...the guy has sold over 12 million albums.

Does he have a chance to go to the R&R HOF?

Probably not. R&R HOF is a huge joke anyway. Al DESERVES to be there though.

His parody on Michael Jackson's "I'm Bad" is Hall of Fame worthy all in itself.

He has been around making...or parodying music for a while. He is the best of what he does so...maybe

I remember him on Doctor Demento.  He was just a kid then.  That is how he got his break.  He became a star on that niche radio show.  It was only up from there.  But I'm not sure playing the accordian qualifies one to be in the HOF.

I have every album he's ever put out.

Some of you might not be surprised by that factoid.

I have to be honest here, Weird Al is for nerdy teens.

Oh I don't know.  Albuquerque is just a classic.  I like it and I'm no teen.  That is just pure stream of consciousness right there.

I loved his stuff when I was a kid, UHF included.

I don't know exactly what the parameters of the R&R HOF are, but he did some stuff that no one else (I think), was doing and he did it well and for a really long time.

Weird Al is overrated although he did find his niche.
