I don't think Gable should be on the list. Neither should Rulon. They both won 3 medals between them and then retired.

Rulon has the Olympic Gold, followed by a World Gold in 2001, and then after losing his toe came back with an Olympic Bronze.  Gable has the two Golds.  That makes 5 medals between the two of them.

I was going by the list and not actually using brain power to remember what I already knew.  :?

However, I still don't know if they are worthy of making the list. Robin Reed has a much better record than they do.

Why do you have Terry Brands so high, considering his golds weren't even the olympics?

The list is always open to argument.  I wonder how Robin Reed would have fared in the modern era.

He would've pinned everyone at every weight.

You forgot "American" in the title.

We'd might as well mention Fred Fozzard, on the topic of "First American World Champion", since he won the same day.  Sanders may have won first, strictly speaking, but I don't think many people would think the order in which the bouts are wrestled is all that important.

As far as the actual list:  define criteria.  Depending on what they are, you might have to include anyone from Doug Blubaugh to Trish Saunders.

"Fashion sense" does not get near enough weight in these conversations, so I'm inclined to agree.

I can see how people could be confused about that.

If they include Kendall Cross with just one Olympic medal (G), how can they not include Ben Peterson with 2 (G,S)?
