No, I only like people who can sing with the exception of Bobby D.  I just never cared much for Janis. She's kind of a screamer; Heart Breaker would be a classic example though it is kind of catchy.

Like both versions, Janis is tough to beat though and Pink doesn't do it.

In a remake I look for some originality. It just wasn't there. Now if Joe Cocker did it you might have something.

Joplin, Pink is struggling at times.

By the way that was one Kris Kristofferson's first hits as a writer.  Little known fact, but he had been dating Janis Joplin for quite a while and up until she died.

Not to steal the thunder of this thread but Kristofferson has had an interesting life.  Rhodes Scholar to Army Captain / chopper pilot to janitor to songwriter and actor.  Not what you'd expect given his persona.

I think Pink's version is good, but when you listen to Janis sing it ... it just feels full of rawness ... something covering a song like this can never capture correctly. I like a lot of cover songs and think there's a ton of covers better than the originals. Janis just has that crushing vocal where you believe she's telling a story rather than singing a song.
