Minnesota put in a beer garden and, despite somehow losing money on it the first year, they claim incidents involving alcohol declined. Assumption being fewer people feel the need to drink a case of beer before an 11 am kickoff, knowing they can have one or two inside.
Of course there are going to be idiots.... always are. But if controlled and limited to a certain area I'd be in favor. For example when the Goofs played at the Metrodump and alcohol was served throughout the venue like any pro stadium it was the drunken mess you'd expect. Of course it didn't help that Iowa and Wisconsin fans saw this as a home game in someone else's stadium, outnumbered the Mn. Crowd sometimes by more than 2-1, and treated it like a drunken vacation. Now that it's controlled and limited to a beer garden there seems to be a distinct lack of Iowa fans having sex in bathroom stalls.
A note, if you give enough money at Iowa to have club seats, you can buy beer and wine throughout the game as well. Again, limited to how many, and where, and there seems to be a lot less problematic drinking and incidents.
