Robby Smith!!
« on: September 09, 2015, 04:57:55 PM »
Wow, what a great match he had for the bronze medal.  He lost but you would not know it by how the Russian acted.  He was completely worn out.  I've never seen a winner stay down before.  Robby had a great match there and made a statement. That Russian knew he had just been in a fight and was grateful time ran out when it did, not 30 seconds later.

Almost felt like a Rocky scene, where even though he lost, the fans were cheering and chanting his name anyway.

Did he wrestle in college? Saw his picture last week and thought "Wow, that guy is FAT!". What's the story on this guy Art? Any resources to fill me in?

Good question Toby.  Looks like he's been at it for quite some time.

Thanks Art! Did a little digging and found that Smith never did AA at college. Amazing he's doing so well now!

Hard to AA in college at a school without an NCAA team.
Bunch of snowflakes run this board, sad how the mods cater to people that support one political party.

Pffft...excuses!

Looks like Northern Michigan's last AAs were in 1988! I'm guessing they dropped wrestling sometime after that. That begs the question...why would a talented wrestler not wrestle in college?

Maybe he just did Greco.  I'll tell you what - He showed us some heart there that is tough to develop.  You either have it or you don't.  He has it and it will take him far in life.

Northern Michigan is the training center for the US Greco team, or at least it was. I'm sure he went there specifically to train as a Greco athlete.
Imagine the good that could be done, if people were less worried about their differences, and more worried about doing good for everyone.

Does anyone else think he got jobbed?  Some calls and non calls looked horrible.  I saw a couple leg fouls and also an initial td should have been another Smith slip.

Makes perfect sense. Tks Akin!

It was close on the leg foul they challenged. Other than that, I didn't see anything that made me think he got jobbed.

I thought the first points awarded to Makhov looked like a slip.

They gave 3 slips before that, if I remember correctly. They were pretty obvious. The one they gave to the Russian looked like a bail out by Smith to me.
