the sport is becoming slowly more popular with women.  that is where there is a chance to grow.  a few non D1 colleges have figured this out and have added women's programs.  if nothing else this protects the men's team.

Its obviously due to the singlet. If we got rid of the singlet, we'd have more kids out than football because kids will miraculously like hard work again without the singlet holding them back.
