Should there be a new #1 at 197?
« on: February 05, 2018, 10:42:40 AM »
Lets see - what are our choices?

We could go with Miklus - who lost major decisions to two different freshmen, one a redshirt from Iowa and one a first year starter from Cornell.

We could go with Haught - who has only lost 2 times this year, but has been pinned both times.

We could go with one or both of the PSU guys at 197 - although only one can start.

We could go with Weigel who lost to Miklus.

We could go with Darmstadt - who got a MD over Miklus but lost a MD to Mattiace.

We could continue with Moore - who lost a squeaker to arguably the PSU back up - but otherwise has dominated.

Talk amongst yourselves.

This brutal flu season has definitely made things interesting.

I would hardly call Moore's squeeker wins dominating.  However, the new #1 Darmstadt has been with 15 pins.
Hope springs eternal.

It is a moot point if Moore wins Big 10 and Nationals.   Not saying he will.  Just saying.   Surprising loss for sure.  PSU must be really really deep.

Seems to me the problem Cael has at 197 is that Cassar is better on his feet, and Rasheed is a better mat wrestler.  Most likely, that makes Cassar the better choice to start, because he will win the close matches, but Rasheed will rack up more bonus points with his killer cradle against weaker foes.  If Cael could put those together he would have another NC.

So should Darmstadt be #1 this week?

It sounds like you are calling on Dr. Frankenstein there Jerry!   Ha.

Well, Moore, if he thinks he is #1 better not be passive anymore and act like a #1 and kick the you know what out of any comers.  A la Zain.

I had Weigel #1 to begin with, so I'm going to answer no... :D

Miklus hammered Weigel so hard you can't find the nail.

Moore is still no. 1.

The question on the local boards:

When was the last time Kollin Moore took only one shot in a match?

Blame was placed on Moore or Sanderson, which is to say Cassar wasn't getting the proper credit.

I have not seen the full match.  It would appear that Sanderson made a great decision and Cassar wrestled an awesome match.  I did see how he rode Moore like a mule for the last minute or so (all I can find on youtube).  Tough tough tough.

So since PSU only has 1 dual left (no, I am not counting UB on 2/18 - that will be a romp) when they wrestle Iowa this weekend, the question is who will Cael put out against Cash Wilcke - Cassar or Rasheed.

My money is on Cassar and if he wins he goes to the Big 10's - as the #2 seed?

How can he not send Cassar out against Wilcke?

By the way, TOM added Cassar at #2 in its ranking today. Intermat added Cassar at #8. Both pulled Shakur.

So you have 2 with a solid shot at the podium and one will be  watching.  Will one transfer for next season?
