Shaun White's half pipe
« on: February 13, 2018, 12:47:02 PM »
Wow, watched the preliminaries last night and White just blew the competition away.  He was faster, higher (by a lot) and more tricksy.  He was just more and even someone like me could see this.  He skyed on his tricks obviously higher than anyone else.  Two guys beat his first run and he came back and scored near perfect.  Amazing.

Oh yeah, it is not S. Korea's half pipe, or the Winter Olympics halfpipe.  He made it his yesterday.  The obvious favorite to win it all.

I haven't watched much of the Olympics so far.  NBC's coverage has been awful for so many Games that I've just lost interest.  It's sad, but it is now something I will watch if there isn't anything else interesting on the tube.  I saw a few minutes of the opening ceremony, but the announcers had me gagging in short order.

Well, the half pipe was fun and it was live last night.  When NBC went to commercial, I switched to CBC which generally is better.  Last  night CBC took a page out of NBC's playbook and had too many touchy feely things rather than competition.  NBC was ok last night, CBC was good too.

But I hear you Bob.  That's why I'm glad I have CBC to fall back on.  One of the benefits of living close to the Canadian border, Comcast broadcasts CBC.

Back in the day when ABC had The Wide World of Sports, they also did a pretty good job of broadcasting the Olympics (although part of it may have been that we weren't as picky at the time).  They generally showed the competition, with an occasional spotlight (like a short spot about Dan Gable).  NBC is so committed to bringing in female viewers that they have so many touchy feely spots and gabfests that they are driving away the sports fans and even women like my wife, who want to watch the "pretty sports".

Amen Bruddah Amen.   Wide World of Sports rocked and ABC rocked the Olympics.

Seems to me, NBC is carrying the speed sports and NBC Sports Channel is covering the dancing events.

Last night was not bad.  Women's alpine and snowboard cross.  I really don't care for the figure skating though.  Judging is just too uneven and I don't really care for it.

I am enjoying it so far though.

And the women are PISSED about it.  They want to see their "pretty sports".

I missed it. When did curling become a sport that benefits from doping?

Scrubbing is a highly doped job in curling.  I guess.
