Hockey might be a strange sport to us warm-weather folks, but it's hard to imagine a story like this in any other major league sport:

The guy also handled the press after the game pretty well: "It just shows, keep grinding away in the men's league and you'll get your shot."

You know there is going to a movie behind it. I'm sure there are lots of stories to tell coming out of the beer league.

Love stories like this.

Last year, the Blues put a guy on the ice that's full time job is to fix vending machines.

I remember reading a comment of an article recently posted on Deadspin. The writer stated that his college roommate was tabbed as the emergency goalie for the Islanders. 

Part of his responsibility was to check in with the team if he ever was out of town.

Now, he has a 0.01% chance of being needed, but he still calls in to the office when he goes on vacation or takes a road trip with his wife and kids.
