I've heard there was a proposal to change the Olympic weight classes to 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 and 130, but never heard the outcome, if there was an outcome.  The Japan Olympic Committee continues to publish the current weight classes.

Is it a done deal that there will be 10 different weight classes at the Olympics in 2020 and they will be these same 10 as the Worlds this year?

Hi Jerry,

Glad to hear from you.    The info I have is the same as Okie and RYou have.   Olympics will be 6 weights, WC will be 10 weights.  Four weights will have a WC during the Olympic year.  That's how Steiber won a WC in 2016.

The olympics seems to think that there should be a cap on how many medals are given.  And that limited the weight classes for Wrestling.   It wasn't until UWW took over for FILA that the international governing body had the guts to tell the IOC that they had no say in competition formats in off olympic years.
