Yaser Dogu
« on: July 27, 2018, 07:42:18 PM »
Doing pretty well.   Burroughs, Taylor, and Gilman in the finals.   Snyder lost 3-3 in the semis.  Steiber lost first match and is out.

Not too bad.   3 guaranteed silvers and one bronze maybe and the other half of our team is on tomorow.

Taylor pinned his way to the finals.  He is looking really good.  He faces Sulaymanov of AZE.  He's dirty and very beatable.

Gilman with Gold  12-5 decision
Garrett DNP
Streebler DNP
Green DNP
Burroughs with Silver  10-10 decision Chamizo wins   Jordan better figure this out when Worlds comes by.
Dake in Finals
Taylor with Gold  pins his way through
Cox DNP
Snyder with Bronze 11-0
Gwiz going for Bronze

So two Golds, 1 silver, 1 bronze.
One in Finals and one fighting for bronze.

5 medals and one potential bronze is not bad but below expectations for this team I'd say.

Why, yes. Yes it is. Man! What a busy weekend!! I see Dake pulled off the big one. I know one of the guys who wrestled him at the OTC last week and he indicated Dake is 100%. Glad to see him back and healthy.

Good tourney with a few surprises, Jordan and Kyle.  But hopefully they will be back at WC.  The four that did not place I expected to do better.  Hopefully this will be a launching pad for great determined practice and improvement.

Kudos to all.

I am proud of the win. I have no doubt that Snyder and Burroughs are confident they will bounce back at world's. Burroughs lost to circumstances scoring. He did not get out wrestled. Dake and Taylor we're the highlight. Green was a disappointment. I worry that this performance will leave him doubting himself for World's. He is capable of taking gold.

Bit of a controversy going on themat.com about the Burroughs Chamizo final.  With one minute left, Jordan was up and got a takedown, Chamizo reversed that and drove Jordan out of bounds.  There is controversy that he exposed Burroughs' back but in looking at the video, I don't see it.  But the angle is not good and was right in front of the scoring and judges table.  That tied up the match and with a few more points scored it ended tied at 10-10 with Chamizo winning on criteria.  If someone can find a video from the other side of the arena, that would be good.

Was it Mark Schultz that said "Offense wins matches, defense wins championships"? Burroughs needs to step the D up.

The quote has been modified by several to suit specific sports, but the original can be traced back to Bear Bryant.

Quote from: Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, Alabama Football

Offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships.

Well no doubt Jordan needs to step up the defense.  At least 2 occasions where he took down Cham only to get reversed immediately.  Hopefully he goes back and works on that.  Beat the streets was not a good contest because the mat was too slippery.  This was a good contest between the two.  If not for the 4 point (I'll call it gift) to Cham, Jordan would have won.   But the same is true, Cham is on a similar level and JB needs to counter that.

The other issue is that Burroughs lost a challenge early in the match, costing him a point.

Well, it is true what they, the big they, say:  Score so the decision isn't left to the officials.  I think Burroughs showed dominance, but and this is a big one, Frank Chamizo is no light weight.  He took it to Burroughs and countered many of his attempts and even countered successful takedowns.  He is pretty insane.  Burroughs needs to figure out how to counter that and work on that.  If he can counter Frank's counters, he can beat everyone else.
