'Bama & Stuff
« on: December 03, 2018, 05:52:18 PM »
Bama may well have 2 of the top 5, maybe even top 2 of  3, QBs in college football.  Jalen Hurts put on show as back-up.  Didn't show any signs of rust.

No B1G in the playoff.....such is the price for a competitive conference.where almost any team can knock off the B1G dog.

Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern...the guy could make the Wildcats a continual top 10 team if Admissions would enable him to recruit under the admit standard.

The good news is tOSU didn’t get in and embarrass themselves again.

No doubt about who #1 and #2 are now.  And tOSU beat UW in the Rose Bowl.  That stung hard.   At least WSU won their bowl game!

We would have had the same championship game under the old BCS system, but there would have been gripes about an undefeated Notre Dame team being left out.  The first round took care of that concern.

I saw an opinion piece on the CNN site where the writer was complaining about the blowouts in the first round.  His opinion was that ND and Oklahoma shouldn't have been there and Ohio State and Georgia should have been.  Considering how those two played in their games (especially Georgia), I doubt if the results would have been much different.  IMO, Bama and Clemson have been that much better than the rest this season, and pretty much for the last four years.

If I remember correctly (from a graphic during a first round game), the lower ranked team won the last three playoff games between Alabama and Clemson.

I believe that to be correct.  #1 has never won the 4 team playoff.

True, but they won.  Mike Leach has done the miracle I expected.  He resurrected an 0-12 WSU squad and brought them to the point of being a contender for PAC 12 championship.  They were leading their division until the Apple Cup where they lost to the Dogs.  If they had won they would have played UT for the PAC 12 championship.  A far cry from when he was hired.

I like Mike Leach. It was coaching genius to get the QB in. That being said I think Purdy will be absolutely dominant in the future. This was his biggest game ever and if you lay aside the two early interceptions he ruled the game. WSU will be glad not to see him again.

The trend continued.  #2 beat #1.  Clemson played much better in the red zone than Bama and also capitalized on two turnovers.  It was all Clemson after Bama took a 16-14 lead in the second quarter.

Bama's Jalen Hurts to transfer for his senior year.  He received his degree in Dec so he's free to go the unrestricted grad transfer route.

Laying odds - Texas Christian which has a ton returning but no QB.
