Flip of disk at the Coaches/Captains meeting
« on: January 10, 2019, 07:42:44 PM »
Team A is the home team will be Green
Team B is the visiting team and will be red.

Do you let Visiting Team call Green or Red

or

Do you just toss the disk and whatever color it lands on wins the toss

Check your state officiating procedures manual.  I think you will find that choice of color for the flip goes to the visiting team.  It has nothing to do with the assignment of the ankle bands.

RYou....what is the state officiating procedures manual??? I have the NFHS rule book.

I always allow visiting team to call a color , but they always look dumbfounded , seems like I'm the only one who does this. I just want to know the proper procedure. NFHS is very vague on this procedure.

Maybe your state doesn't publish one and just relies on the NFHS.  Some states  publish a supplementary manual with additional interpretations.

Here's Ohio

Here's NY

Ahhh.....for some odd bizarre reason....I was thinking of the State Tournament, thinking their is some special procedure manual for officials that work states.

I'm from NYS, and all it states is....

"Meet with head coaches and captains and explain to them that they are to make certain everyone exhibits good sportsmanship throughout the contest and then conduct the pre-meet disk toss. Winner of disk toss (red or green) will have choice of odd or even."

There is no mention of if ref should ask visiting team to call a color or just use their assigned colors. In all honestly, it doesn't even say visiting team gets to call a color. Makes me wonder if the ref just flips the disk, and if it's green, it's the home team, and if it's red, it's the visiting team.

How do people handle the flip of the disk?

Now if you check the Ohio guide, it states ....visiting gets choice.

I would ask how others in your district handle it.  Since the wrestlers looked spooked when you offered the visiting team choice, its likely assigned of a flip.

Assign your ankle bands based on singlet color, then flip on the assignment, no choice.

Thanks for everything. Not a major issue, but something worth mentioning. I will look into it.

I decide which team is which color, and then I flip the disk. Whichever color comes up chooses odds or evens.
If you want respect, be respectful.
