He has done really good work with the Oklahoma RTC but, obviously, the success at the college level has yet to follow. I still think you have to give him next year and the year after to see how his recruits develop and to get rid of a few more holdovers. It can be difficult to change the culture when the old guard is still around.
Not many of those holdovers left actually.
If OU was scoring 20 or 30 points at the tournament and if there was some obvious enthusiasm or if there was some improvement in the performances of some of the older wrestlers on the team I guess I would agree with giving him more time. But when his team scores 2 points in the tournament, the athletes appear apathetic even at home, and your (non transfer) junior and senior starters appear to have gotten worse since their mildly successful freshman seasons its hard to believe that patience is warranted.
He didn't recruit Moody, Jeffries, the Thomases, or Hayden Hansen and MacCallum is a stop-gap. Judging a new coach on the performance of guys who were already there when he was hired is tough. On the one hand, it would be great if the new staff could come in, get buy in, and help them improve. On the other hand, if those guys don't buy what the new guy is selling, it can cause a lot of issues. I don't have any inside info on that front, but IMO we should at least wait to see if Madrigal, Demas, Mantanona, Woodley, and Boyd improve next season. If they do, maybe Lou just needs his guys. If they don't, I'll be more on board with another change.
