Is this one of those opportunities to qualify a particular weight class for the Olympics?  If so, which weights does the US need to qualify?

No, I don't think this is a qualification for the Oly's.  This is a ranking series that will produce seeds for the Oly's.  I believe that is what this is.

So is Gable going to wrestle in Rome and then get to Ann Arbor by Sunday to wrestle Parris?  Thats a lot of frequent flyer miles!

Looks like he wrestles on Friday in Rome.  Whether he can recover, fly, recover in time for Sunday is another matter.

97 and 125 go on Friday.   The rest of the FS team goes on Saturday.

I guess it might depend on whether they have any direct flights from Rome to Detroit.

For GR, we had a Bronze and a few 5ths.

Nowry at 55kg with Silver - it was a round robin with 3 participants.

Hancock at 97kg with Bronze

5th's
Coon 130
Rau and Martinez 85

not too bad, still have some more GR for tomorrow.

Second day of GR, no medals.

GR seems tough right now for us.  FS tomorrow and Saturday.  Tomorrow 97 and 125.  Sat, the other 8 weights.

Looks like God forgot about Snyder.  Iranian stuck him like a pig.

It looks that way.  Snyder needs to get that figured out.  He looked good until that match.

With the margin between these world class wrestlers being so slim it seems like it would be hard to keep that edge sharp especially for someone like Snyder.  It is one of the reasons going back to back as an Olympic Champ is such a rare and special accomplishment.

How many Americans have even done that?

He was losing 8-0 when he was pinned.  Sadulaev pinned him mid way first round.  He's regressed.

Well -now it looks like Gable S did not make the trip - the lure of East Lansing and Ann Arbor must have been too much for a few days in Rome to overcome.
