Stanford's starter at 125 lbs for next season

With last year's starter for Stanford at 125 lbs having entered the NCAA transfer portal, i.e., Logan Ashton, it would "appear" - according to WrestleStat's projected lineup for Stanford for 2023 that Suhas Chundi might be the starter for Stanford at 125 lbs.  I don't think that will be the case myself.   Personally I think True Freshman Nico Provo (former Cornell commit) will be the starter for Stanford at 125 lbs for the 2023 season.

Provo was a 2021 H.S. graduate and he did take a couple of classes at Stanford last fall but he was not a member of the Stanford wrestling team.  He will be joining the Stanford wrestling team this fall however.   And just speaking for myself but I'd GUESS that Provo will prove to be the starter for Stanford at 125 lbs UNLESS Logan Ashton returns to Stanford - which may happen as Ashton has been in the transfer portal for  some time now and so far no school (as far as I know) has come knocking on his door (so to speak).

Either way it will be interesting - to me if nobody else - to see what happens in the next few months.

Provo did take 1st place at the 2021 Menlo Open tournament in California.  He won two of his three matches at 125 lbs by FALL and his other win was by Medical Forfeit by Stanford's Logan Ashton.

Provo also competed last month at the Bill Farrell International Open at the UNI Dome in Iowa.  He competed as a member of the California RTC.  However this was a  Freestyle event where he placed 3rd at 57 kg (about 125 lbs).

That's pretty darn good for someone just out of high school with no college experience.  May be a tough battle for anyone else to beat him at Stanford.

Looks like the possibility of Logan Ashton returning to Stanford is now not a possibility.

My question on this is how did Ashton manage to graduate from Stanford in only THREE YEARS?  How is that possible?  His first year at Stanford was the 2019-2020 season and his second season at Stanford was the 2020-2021 season and his last season at Stanford was the 2021-2022 season.   And this photo announcement of his says he still has THREE more years of eligibility left.

He was likely awarded some AP credit upon enrollment and likely stayed on campus taking courses over the summer.  Must be a very smart kid.  His bio says he was a Psych major, but he's enrolled at UTC for an MBA.  That is a unique combination.  Typically, uni's look for a math, finance or econ major for their MBA program.  That may be why he's at UTC.  Also, scholarships for grad students can be quite expensive for athletic programs since there is a charge back to athletics for the cost of tuition which is much higher than the cost for an undergrad.

Way back in the early Cretaceous period - when I was attending the University of Idaho - while walking across the campus I happened to run into a girl who graduated from the same H.S. that I had attended.  I hadn't seen her since H.S. so we started talking.  She told me she was taking 21 to 24 credits per semester and planned to graduate in three years.   She and I had been at the Univ. of Idaho for more than 1 year at that point (3rd semester) so she was nearly 1/2 way to her goal.  So I suppose it is possible (especially if one takes classes in the summer as well).

I think the MOST credits I ever took in a semester was 18 and I found that exhausting.  I can't imagine how she could have been taking up to 24 credits per semester.  I wonder what became of her.  Now I'm going to have to try to find the answer to that question.

Oh, I didn't remember her name but I do have my Senior and Junior year high school yearbooks.  So that helped me find her.   She was one of those beautiful girls who would have stood out even if she was surrounded by a lot of other beautiful girls.

Yeah just to get into Stanford is an accomplishment in and of itself.  Last I heard they don't take dummies there.

Athletics has a lot of strings that can be pulled to get schollies into the majors they want.  Theyb have far less pull with MBA programs.  Like I wrote above, MBAs typically dont accept Psych majors.
