Another Valencia commits to wrestle in college for

Stanford.  That being Aden Valencia (a 2020 HS Sophomore) from Morgan Hill, CA.   As I understand it he is NOT related to Zahid and Anthony and Cael. Aden has verbally committed to Stanford University as a 2024 commit for the Cardinal.

Aden placed 3rd at the 2022 California State wrestling tournament at 126 lbs - his one loss was a 6-5 loss to HS Senior Zeth Romney of Chaminade H.S. in the Semi-Finals.  Romney then got pinned in the championship match by another 10th grader by the name of Brock Mantanona of Palm Desert H.S. in CA.  Fact is four of the top 7 placers at 126 lbs at the 2022 CA State tournament were 10th graders:

1st. - Brock Mantanona - (10) Palm Desert H.S. - Won by FALL (4:34) over Zeth Romney (12) of Champinade HS

3rd - Aden Valenia (10) Sobrato H.S. - Won 2-0 in 3rd place match over Yoshiya Funakoshi (12) of Calvary Chapel H.S.

5th - Grigor Cholakyan (10) St. John Bosco H.S. - Won 3-2 in 5th place match over George Rosas (12) of Clovis H.S.

7th - Paul Kelly (10) Poway H.S. won 3-1 over Leo Contino (9) Buchanan H.S.

In other words all four of the placement finals at 126 lbs at the 2022 CA State tournament were won this year by H.S. Sophomores and three of the four losers in those placement matches were lost by H.S. Seniors.

CORRECTION - Aden Valencia is NOT a 2020 H.S. Sophomore - He is a 2022 H.S. Sophomore.  This is why I wish there was an edit feature on this forum.

It APPEARS that Aden Valencia's sister Nyla won the 2020 CA State championship at 106 lbs and was the 2022 CA State runner-up at 111 lbs.  And she has signed a LOI to wrestle for Iowa

Brock has two older brothers at Oklahoma. The oldest, Anthony, was a CA state champ a few years ago. He was a 4-year starter at OU. Not sure if he has any eligibility left. His other brother, Troy, transferred to OU from SF State a couple of years back.

I believe he also has another older brother (Beau Mantanona) who placed 2nd at the 2022 CA State tournament at 138 lbs as a H.S. Junior.  He (Beau) has verbally committed to Michigan.
