The Decline of Open Mat
« on: June 23, 2009, 06:35:20 PM »
It's nice to have a government politics section where people can rant all they want about government politics, and those who don't want to get their panties in a bunch don't have to look at it. But once you let politics trickle into other sections, it becomes a bit uncontrolled and unappealing. That's exactly what has happened in the polls section. And especially when the types of posts that people are putting there are so simplistic as that it is totally obvious how people are going to reply depending on whether they are liberal or conservative, then the forum gets taken over by a child-like mentality that ruins it for more intellectual posters. Maybe one would label me as hypocritical on this because I did put one or two political posts there, but my posts clearly were not trolling as many that are there now.

Will the forum moderators continue to let The Open Mat decline as it has been, or will they take arms against this rising sea of troubles and  enforce that government politics stay within the government politics section?

I admit I am part of the decline, I am a hothead when it comes to political discussions and I am on the wrong forum since I am an unapologetic liberal.

This place is dominated by a bunch of right wingers and you all feed off each other and marginalize anyone with a differing viewpoint.

I don't think most conservatives marginalize anyone on this board, but thats your opinion and I respect it.

There a very verbal few and I don't mind naming names.  intensity, bog, ctc, oc, jointdoc, drmuscle, visegrip, and mspart, just to name a few.  There are maybe 4 or 5 total with a more liberal viewpoint and few speak up.  Honestly, I don't even know why political discussions are even brought up, I am never going to change your mind. and you are never going to change mine so it turns into a big circle jerk.

Viratas,

Is this why you invited me?  To banter with the right-wingers from days gone by at TheMat?.......Great.

I've always hoped more liberals like yourself would just mature if an alternative viewpoint is available. Someday you might wake up and discover  "classical liberalism" and abandon your support for anti -individualist socialist . http://www.lewrockwell.com/burris/burris15.1.html.

Ok, speaking of football, what do you think of our "former" boy Brett chucking the pigskin around for your Vikes?

I'll be frank - I loved him when he was a Packer but his schtick is really tiresome.

I'll forewarn you about 2 things:  (if he does play this year)

1) He will look very good for the first 10 weeks of the season.  His numbers will then plummet.  A fairly knowledgeable Packer writer did a story on Favre's last 3 seasons as a Packer BEFORE he retired (the first time).  The first 10 games of all 3 years - very good - even at 38 years-old.  The last 6 games- very poor.

His conclusion - Favre's age catches up with him over the long grind of a season.

2)  If the Vikings (with Favre) are in an overtime game, just cover your eyes because he's gonna chuck the ball up!!!!

Remember V, you read it here first!

Good Luck!

The funny thing is Ray is a bit of a computer whiz and when he traces your ip address it is very possible he will unleash a dirge of "friendliness" the likes you cannot even fathom, into your life.

I will take your word for it. I am not all that thrilled about it. But as long as T-Jack never sees the field I feel our odds of winning are always a little better :)
