I think a dual format might be more appealing to fans.  I think the dual format is easier for fans to understand basically.

I also think a dual format team championship would allow for more teams to be truly competitive for a national title.

I would be ok with having a dual national title and a tournament national title, but if we can only have one, I like it the way it is.  Duals are great and do stress the team aspect, but they're so much about match-ups.  Plus, I think there should be more than a 6 point disperity between having the best guy in the country and having the worst guy.
