NOTICE: The November 7 Clarion Classic High School Open has been cancelled.  The Knight Point Clarion Open collegiate tournament will still take place on Saturday, November 6, but the high school open tournament that was scheduled for Sunday is cancelled.  Anyone who was preregistered should receive notice of this, but please spread the word if you were planning on coming or know someone who was planning on coming.  Thank you.

With the new rule that high school kids can’t wrestle in college opens, the Clarion Classic offers the next best thing - an opportunity to see high-level college competition up close and in person.  The day before this tournament, right in the same venue, is the Knight Point Clarion Open.  It’s a very good collegiate open tournament for so early in the season, and you can catch some excellent wrestling - 4 of last year's champions finished the year on the podium in Omaha as NCAA Division 1 All-Americans.  Get there a day early, check out the college action, get a hotel for the night and be rested and ready to compete the next day!

The 2010 Clarion Classic Pre-Season High School Wrestling Tournament will be held on Sunday, November 7 at Clarion University in Clarion, PA.  Last year’s tournament featured wrestlers from seven states, including 2x NY champ Quinton Murphy from Holley, NY and FloNationals champion James Green from Willingboro, NJ.

Wrestling will take place on 10 mats to get everyone home at a reasonable hour.  Matches are 1-2-2.

Awards will be presented to the top 6 wrestlers at each weight class.

Online registration is now available for the Clarion Classic Preseason High School Open Wrestling Tournament!  You can now register and pay by credit card in advance.  

The whole tournament will be smoothly run with none of the hang-ups of typical wrestling tournaments.  10 mats with several rounds of on-deck assignments posted on a large screen for all to see.  Should be a great preseason tournament in the hotbed of high school wrestling!

Dr. Muscle, $40 may seem like a lot, but the proceeds don't go into anyone's pocket; they go to the Clarion University Wrestling Pin Club (boosters), who will use it for the betterment of Clarion Wrestling.  It's a great preseason competition in the best state for high school wrestling, plus your entry helps out a D-1 college program with a strong wrestling tradition that's rising out of the junk heap it was in just a few short years ago.  It's a win-win situation for anyone who loves wrestling!  (It's also less than the $50 Super 32 is asking.   :D )

A collegiate open tournament primarily for guys not wrestling in their conference championships.  Everyone in your room can be training for something all the way through February!  We already have commitments from several schools, including long-distance champ Cal State Bakersfield.  Wrestling on 10 mats and some pretty sweet awards.

ELIGIBILITY:       Collegiate & past collegiate wrestlers (no high school wrestlers)

WEIGHT CLASSES:    NCAA Weights:  125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, 174, 184, 197, 285

PRE-REGISTRATION:   All entries must be e-mailed to wrestling@clarion.edu by 5 p.m. on Feb. 26, 2009 and include NAME, SCHOOL, and WEIGHT CLASS.  First come, first serve - tournament entries will be capped at 350!

CHECK-IN:  6:30-8:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Clarion University Student Recreation Center (NOT TIPPIN GYM)

MEDICAL CHECK:   7:00-8:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at the South end of the Rec Center track.  Medical check will take place after check-in, before weigh-in.

WEIGH-IN:   Saturday, February 28, 2009 / 7:00-8:00 a.m.

STARTING TIME:  9:00 am, Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 on 10 MATS - 1 weight class per mat

RULES:  Double elimination with wrestling to six places
                NCAA rules where applicable
                No riding time
                Rest rule waived
                Sudden victory overtime

MATCH LENGTH:   All matches 2-2-2 on 10 mats (wrestle on the same mat all day)
