College / Re: Anthony Valencia quitting wrestling?
« on: May 26, 2016, 01:07:30 PM »
There was a time when I was just burned out, tired, and just not all excited about wrestling..... Went on a eating binge, gained 15# in a matter of days.

After a couple of days, Coach, Dad and teammates got me back into the room. As I was doing that, and loosing all that weight again, I dawned on me, my body was just screwed up !!

This was back in the 70's and we didn't have the knowledge we have now, about our bodies, and actually loose weight in a correct manner. Rubber suits, sauna's, just downright starving ourselves. An no fluids !!! Jeez ....

So ... when I returned back to the room, lost the weight in a managed approach, I felt great, and finished the season at State.

Sometimes our wrestlers need to take a step back, take a break, and take care of themselves.

Rock is the only one making any sense in this thread.

Are you nuts? Rock has been a veritable font of misinformation on the Chance issue. First off he said he was kicked off the team. Then he claimed there were drug problems.

Long history of this.

I'd suggested the University of Portland in a recent Short Time episode. Not Portland State, since they'd previously axed wrestling. My thoughts are put the monies raised by Save Oregon Wrestling into schools that would actively consider (or have a better shot) starting wrestling. University of Portland is Division I with no football.

My son is in his Sr. year at UP. Great school, setting, and campus.

Excellent school - Powerful Soccer presence (particularly women's.) However ... The campus is tiny, and very, very limited facilities and space. I've not seen a facility, or gym space to even support an additional team.

One other thing .... Often after the sport is dropped, all facilities go away. Take UW and WSU in Washington. Both schools just spent Millions and Millions on facility upgrades. Not a single room or place to wrestle.  The club guys wrestle in some old room left over.

It's hard to know what the current administration has against wrestling. It's one of the original Olympic sports.

Its not a major sport in the PAC12 with only 4 of the 12 teams participating.

The NWCA All Star classic is at Georgia Tech might be a great time to open up conversations with the AD there about a program.

ACC isn't much better off with only 6 of 15 participating in the sport.  But if GTech and Louval can be influenced that bumps the conference to +50% participation.

NJIT is an interesting thought. They just went Div I in basketball.  Most of the NJ State school dropped the sport.  They are building a new athletic center.  They are in the midst of an academic expansion.  downside they are already in a negative position funding sports and i doubt they are willing to compound that loss.

I'd like to see a 1pt nearfall added as well. I like the changes. The drop down to one knee is one of the worst ways to stall.

Now, as long as they never implement that stupid sumo pushout crap, I'll be happy.

Dropping down to one knee in neutral is the worst.  I don't recall seeing it much until Robles (obviously he had no choice) and people seem to mimic it.  It is obvious stalling.

Granted ... this was in HS .. Yet I thought it was pretty easy to attack a guy once he is down on his knee. Follow him down, yet circle fast, fast, fast and attack down at his level.

Say what ?????  What the hell??  They have made some interesting new rules over the years / decades ... Yet this one is off the hook.

Neither Rogers bros on that list? IMO, they should come back home to the NW.

This is a true observation. Including both of them ... I bet they only get 1 or maybe 2 full starter seasons where they are.
