Most Efficient College Wrestling Programs

The Ivy schools should be excluded since you can't accurately derive the cost of the their programs. The overt cost of scholarships is excluded because they do not issue any within the NCAA definition; however, they do offer  financial aid beyond the campus wide qualification based on financial need.  On top of it, alumni have created covert "academic" scholarships that only student athletes qualify to receive.and many will cover the remaining cost of attendance, room and board, books and student fees.  Cornell has always had that little pot of gold stashed up top the clock tower. Chris Ayres has done a bang up job hording his ever growing stash of cash under the steps of Nassau Hall.

Maybe. Which Ivy schools have covert academic scholarships that are limited to student athletes?

One year is inadequate for trending.  Year isn't a metric, but I understand your point and it is a good one.

Additionally, one year is a poor metric for looking at performance per dollar.

This analysis doesn't attempt to show a trend though such a project might be interesting.

What is meant by "wrestling teams scores compound so you don't get a true linear representation of performance?"

No doubt some sort of analysis over the entire population would be interesting, especially over time. Not a trivial undertaking as the outcome data isn't available in a suitable format. The NCAA should do a better job with creating helpful datasets.

You can't use a sampling of only top-20 teams and establish trends or determine over/under performers.

You need to look at all programs or at least a random sampling of all programs.  But even then it will be hard to compare since wrestling teams scores compound so you don't get a true linear representation of performance.
