College / Re: N.I.L. = Beginning of the end of college athletics

In all honesty, I saw this coming from the beginning and was totally against it.  Highest bidder can just but a championship and all the little guys will simple fold or suffer.

The Iowa Rivals board think that Mineo's claim is bogus.  He has been way off on several things recently.  I am in a "wait and see" pattern.  I am very skeptical that the payment claim is true.

Mike Evans won hs state in Penn at 195 (?) and then wrestled at Iowa at 174 (?)

According to Pat Mineo this is what it cost to get Woods to commit to the Hawkeyes:

 $200k+ NIL/HWC

Which confuses me (not hard to do).   Does this mean he is being PAID $200,000 AND in addition to that he is getting more money via a N.I.L. deal from Hawkeye boosters and he is also a part of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club?   How can he be getting paid $200 k to wrestle in college.  I know that N.I.L. deals (legalized NCAA corruption) are now okay (within the guidelines set forth by the NCAA) but just outright paying an NCAA athlete is still NOT okay as I understand it.

If that is the case then NCAA athletics are no more as far as I'm concerned.   It's now everything goes and the best athletes go to the schools who can afford to pay them more.

I don't care to watch professional athletes play games - which is why I rarely watch an NFL game and why I no longer watch the Olympics either.   Now it appears NCAA athletics are no different.
Your analysis is correct.  The money is upfront money for use of likeness in advertising.  It is now the norm - top college athletes for highest bidder.

Read yesterday speculation Henson may go 133.  I have no clue if that is a real option or not.

I think there is high probability Murin bumps to 157.  I agree with Barlett cutting to 141 to make room for Van Ness
Now that Real Woods is going to Iowa, I will agree with Murin moving up and Henson at 149.

Why is that?

Wealthy donors.

NIL will go to the NCAA champions for the most part.  They come from all over.   PSU has more than their fair share this year and in years past, but champions come from everywhere.   NIL money does not go to the school does it?

mspart
NIL money comes from donors that want to purchase a kid's services to "their" school.  "Come wrestle for us and you will get a free BMW".

Thanks.  I'd rather he strengthened ASU than PSU.  Just a personal opinion.

mspart
NIL money will make the rich forever "Kings of the Forest".  Championships are now to the highest bidder.

PSU has a massive money advantage - about 7 to 1.

I have seen a few that are real convinced that Real transfers to Michigan.

Murin was at 41 a couple years ago.  He bumped up then for Jayden E.  I think he stays 149.  Murin is also a senior next year and not a freshman.

Cassioppi is 3 - 0 against Kerk; but, I see a passing up too.

College wrestling and calling stalling just don't hang out together.  It is my single most complaint.
