College / Ridge Lovett non-escape call
« on: January 25, 2020, 12:07:37 PM »
Does anyone have an understanding of the ref's reasoning?  Is it that if Lovett had released RBY's ankle then it would be an escape, but because he was trying to pull RBY in bounds,  RBY's  hand fighting showed control?

I personally think that the ref lost track of the action and then didn't want to admit his mistake.

Minny has 7 in-state starters, maybe 8 as 197 is still unsettled.

TOM----Thursday January 9th,  Iowa State at Utah Valley, 9:00 PM  FloWrestling

FloWrestling-----Iowa State vs Utah Valley, Jan 9, 2020 - 8:00 pm

Neither site lists the time zone for their supposedly helpful meet listings.  Why is this so difficult for them?

Or how to add an hour the Central time listed.

Why are the meets starting times listed as Eastern?  Flo does the same thing and it makes absolutely no sense.  You are not based out East, nor is Flo.  Also, if you are going to change the dual meets starting times from Central to Eastern shouldn't you at least tell your viewers that?  Nowhere in the article does it let people know.

Loking back at the news of Eastern Michigan University cutting their program a couple of years ago, I remembered the articles that were written about the news.

One thing that stood out for me was that the photos of the team competing showed practically empty seats in the background.

I would assume that revenue and attendance factor in deciding if a team should stay or go. After all, an AD isn't going to cut a team that brings in money.

Here are some images from google after searching for "Eastern Michigan University Wrestling"

AD Trev Alberts of the University of Nebraska-Omaha cut the wrestling program because he wanted to join a basketball conference and partake in its revenue-sharing windfall.

He announced that he was ending the program in a phone call to Coach Mike Denny the night his team had won his sixth D2 national title.

Here are stats on the program:

Here is Jason Bryant's article in TOM:

What is Zander Wick's status?  I didn't see him mentioned in the WI Early Look.

Any news on Connor Brown's future?

Well, considering the rules of that board (which I actually set because of morons) are outlined about legal matters, the people who are complaining about them haven't taken the time to read them.

I'm going to assume it was deleted because you were trying to be a subversively clever and taking a shot at the forum rules. But hey, par for the course.

I'm assuming that your rule can't be discussed because it is arbitrary and indefensible.  Marstellar, Downey, Gross, Long, Ruth, Mock, Bright, Stoll, Tsirtsis, Perry, Marion, etc, etc, all have posts on TheMat talking about their arrests, but the biggest story of the summer is somehow verboten.

It’s very odd but a similar thread had started on The Wrestling Forum but it got locked down for some reason having to do with violating that forum’s  rules.

Odder still was when I posted a thread with the title "History lesson" and this link and this quote "Roll out the red carpet boys, I'm here.  I know I should have made this jump long ago.  Deep down, I hoped that themat would run a professional forum with good moderators.  I guess that dream went up in smoke."    The entire post was deleted by the overzealous mods.

The challenge review system has created more problems than it has solved.  Coaches game the process to give their wrestlers needed lungers.  Even when it works and the challenge is upheld it has disrupted the natural flow of the match.  Two officials are able to make the correct call most of the time as it happens in real time.  That is good enough for me.

College / step-out rule

Earl says that a step-out rule will make reffing a lot easier.  But doesn't that depend upon determining the difference between a step-out and a push-out?  Hilger beat Stoll 1-0 and they went out of bounds at least 14 times.  Some would score this 14-1 Stoll while others would say it was a 15-0 tech for Hilger.  I think that a step-out rule just opens up a different can of worms from the current can of worms.
