International / Re: World Team Trials and Final X discussion

Ok, the thread is started, time to discuss.

Will JO avenge?  Will Fix fall?  Will Snyder be as dominant in Final X as he has been?

What do you all think?

Wrestling / Re: Question about different states

This is the first year or state tournament at 32 man brackets. That was due to heavy snowfall that restricted travel for the regional tournament.  Some people liked it some people did not.

What did you think of the 32 man bracket for the WA tournament?  When I was up there I really liked the regional weekend.

Oregon does the same thing 1A/2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, and Girls all in the Memorial Coliseum.  2 days and 12 mats with 6 for the finals.

I wouldn't know but I know some Oregon State wrestling fans are upset with Zalesky's lack of results lately.    But the decision to hire or fire is never left up to fans.

I don't ever seem to know what any school's administration is going to do regarding any of their head coaches.  I've seen coaches who I were "safe" at their schools (as far as I could tell) who were fired.   My GUESS is Zalesky isn't going anywhere anytime soon - unless it's his choice to do so.

As an Oregon State fan what I'm most upset with is the fact that OSU can't get any of Oregon's top recruits.  I think that Bresser was the last one to go to Oregon.  I don't expect them to get all of Oregon's talent, nor could they be successful with just home grown talent but there should be some kids wanting to stay home.

It is also frustrating to see that guys don't seem to be developing at Oregon State.  Look at guys like Dhesi, Bresser, Pena, Morehead, Jack, etc.  They are R12 or low AA guys as underclassmen and never make a jump to a top 4 guy.  They don't seem to be building, but rather just maintaining.

I tend to think that he just wan't there.  His head wasn't in it and he didn't bring his A game.  Kinda reminded me of Adeline, when Jordan wanted to attack he seemed to be able to get to his attacks but he just waited too long.  Sometimes you just have a bad day.

You could tell from his post match interviews that he'd put a ton of pressure on himself to be the best in the world and I think that weight was too much to handle today.  He's still one of the greatest wrestlers the US has ever seen and I have no doubt that today was just a blip on the radar of his career, unfortunately it was a pretty crappy day to have a blip.

Neither of our ladies made it in with the last chance qualifier today.

That's terrible to hear.  I learned today that a friend of mine and former Oregon State national champion Roger Weigel passed away yesterday as well.  Sad time for the wrestling community. I always enjoyed talking to Morris on TWT when it was up and running.

Coaching and Technique / Re: After school wrestling program for K-6

Just saw this.  I have about 15 kids each week, well until baseball started then I lost my 3-6 graders.  The kids are really loving it, we have not learned much technique, and I'm discovering that I'm NOT a young kids coach.  Lots of them have a pretty decent double leg, can get into a stance and move around in it, and a few have decent inside stand ups.  We put on a "match night" just before spring break, and just before I lost my older kids so that parents could come and watch.  We had pretty good attendance and lots of parents told me that their son or daughter really loved wrestling and hoped that I would do it next year too.

Who would you offer the job to Buck?

No I agree that Metcalf would have had to wrestle the tournament.  I think that for whatever reason he had a really bad day.  I bet if you wrestle that tournament again that he would come out on top more often than not.  That being said Frank was the man when it mattered, time for him to get a haircut and go qualify our weight.

I like our current system, although I think that if you qualified the weight at last year's worlds that you should sit in the finals.

I liked the new rule, I also wish that we would go to a true step out rule.  I don't like the way it's done in folkstyl currently.

I wonder if someone like a Clayton Foster would be interested in a job like this.  He had national success and is from Idaho.

It will be interesting to see how he does.  I think he is a good choice for the job.  With ASU on the rise, and BSU looking for a new coach it will be fun to watch the Pac12 over the next few seasons.
