Thanks, they were a lot of fun to take, I'm already thinking of how to do them better/different next year.  I might try them in color, I'm not sure.

I did something simaliar at our district and State meets.  You can do a lot with just the way you light the athletes and just a little bit of editing.

College / Eastern Oregon University adds men's and women's wrestling
« on: January 12, 2016, 02:05:32 AM »
Eastern Oregon University in La Grande Oregon is adding a Women's wrestling team and reinstating their Men's team beginning next season.  They plan to hire one coach for both teams.  This is great news as it brings the total count to 7 colleges in Oregon with wrestling.
1. Oregon State--Corvallis
2. Pacific (Men's and Women's)--Forest Grove
3. Southern Oregon (Men's and Women's)--Ashland
4. Warner Pacific (Men's and Women's)--Portland
5.  Clackamas Community College--Clackamas
6.  Southwestern Community College Men's and Women's)--Coos Bay
7. Eastern Oregon (Men's and Women's)--La Grande

Here's a link to the official EOU article.  I'm probably more excited about this addition than any other I've seen.  Eastern is my alma mater and serves an area of the state that produces a lot of high quality wrestlers but has zero wrestling opportunities for people after high school.

While it's exciting to see, I don't see how this makes sense for Kyle and his gold medal quest.

There is a LOT going on when it comes to college wrestling in Oregon.  ( Restore College Wrestling is in the process of adding a new program D3 in La Grande at Eastern Oregon University, they recently added a program at Warner Pacific in Portland, and helped add a Women's program at Southern Oregon University as well as SWOCC.

I didn't think it was possible for me to hate them any more, then you posted this on facebook and I now hate them more.  I remember when I had a hard time deciding whom to cheer for the ducks or the beavers (when U of O had Cox, the Watsons), that time is long gone.

Coaching and Technique / Re: After school wrestling program for K-6

I should add that this will be a once a week class/practice.  Tuesday will be k-2 or 3 and Thursday will be 3 or 4 through 6.

Coaching and Technique / After school wrestling program for K-6
« on: October 06, 2015, 01:00:09 PM »
I'm starting an after school wrestling program at our local elementary school soon, it is NOT a practice and it will be the first exposure that many of these kids have ever had to the sport.  There is no other teams in the area (kids in high school have to dive 40 miles to a neighboring town if they want to wrestle).  I'm looking for ideas on how to introduce kids to the sport.  I want to teach them some basic techniques and how a match works.  Again this isn't a team, but an after school "Educational" opportunity.  Other programs that run concurrently to my wrestling include sewing, cooking, acting, homework help, reading, writing.

I'm really looking for some fun games to play for a while where the focus is on having fun, while staying in the world of wrestling.  Most of the games I used to use when I coached were mainly conditioning.

What other advice might you have?

I've never seen a perfect set of rankings.  I've been listening to the podcast each day where they explain the rankings and they make sense.  I disagree with some but I doubt that I could do much better if I were to attempt to do all 10 weights out to 20 wrestlers.

It's in Roseburg Oregon, just about 2 hours North of the California border.

I'm up for it.

Not sure who is going to beat Burroughs.  Personally I like Metcalf's chances of earning a medal in Rio, not sure what happened to Reece and Jake.  Both were very disappointing.  Trevel medals if he was at Vegas.  I'm intrigued by Taylor moving up, I hope someone on that ladder does (Dake, Taylor, or Howe).  I am not sure what to think about Ramos right now.  I don't know who a better option for us is at that weight.  For Women's, it'll be interesting to see how Helen does at 53.  Adeline should win it again at 75, Lampe and Elena are both contenders for a medal as well.  We have a long way to go with Greco but I think that we're moving in the right direction.  Beseik had an insane bracket, Smith had Makhov pinned before he slid out of the circle, and with another 30 seconds he wins that match regardless--you just can't spot someone 7 points.  Lester and Mango both have medal potential but neither showed it in Vegas.

Did you guys watch his first round match?  He put on a single leg clinic, never stopped moving forward and never stopped pressuring.  Even the first part of his second match he was in constant attack mode.  It seemed like after he took the injury time out his style changed.  I'm not sure if he got shaken up, or just gassed but he was a different wrestler after that.

The crowd during that match was just insane.  I was more impressed with the poise and mat savvy that he showed during his run than in his ability.  I figured that he would give up some "rookie" points and end up in the bronze match or something like that.  I would have been happy to see him qualify the weight for Rio.  Needless to say I was overjoyed with his outcome.

Brent completely stopped attacking for some reason during his second match, he somehow managed to win it, but then again came out in his last match against the Iranian and did absolutely nothing.  When he's not attacking or at least putting pressure on his opponent he looks bad.
