Poll:Wrestling attire for the future
« on: September 25, 2011, 09:33:19 PM »
I really feel like a lot of the unpopularity of wrestling is due to the singlet. I think we should modernize the wrestling attire. After watching Will Ferrell in a singlet in the movie Old School, I became so much less of a fan.

Two piece compression uniforms are popular currently with most athletes anyway.

USA Wrestling will be testing the fighters shorts and under armor type shirts from what I have heard.
Imagine the good that could be done, if people were less worried about their differences, and more worried about doing good for everyone.

I really do not like he idea of fighter shorts for compatition, you will see a ton of broken and dislocated fingers as well as dopey refs now having to watch for guys grabbing shorts etc...

V, the NCAA would not allow for loose shorts. They specifically state that they must be tight fitting. You may be talking about board shorts and rash guards. I think these doublets are coming regrdless. I for one think it will have a positive impact on the sport.

Volkmann vs Askren  ;)

It would be no different than the singlets on the bottom  other than it will be 2 piece.

I have no issue with tight fitting. As long as it is not loose.

My explaination to kids on why we wear singlets, is the reason V mentioned. For safety more than anything. But I agree if we go to the two piece, we'll look more like MMA fighters and kids will be attracted to that.

It's not just fighters, look at what's worn at the NFL combine.  It's the same thing.

There needs to be a choice between the singlet and the 2 piece.    Gotta change with the times.

Oh I thought all along you were talking about nut huggers....I didn't realize you meant board shorts.....that would be odd indeed.  Almost like a Gi or no Gi comparison....

The poll says under armour like compression clothing, not board shorts.  Did I miss something?
