National Duals Brackets
« on: February 19, 2013, 04:44:24 PM »
http://awn.theopenmat.com/2013/02/mat-mayhem-draws-released-by-nwca/

They've been posted ... no real surprises.  Iowa could still see Ohio St for 3rd/4th so we could still see Ramos vs Streibler before the Big 10 finals.  Iowa vs Minnesota will be another nailbiter for both teams I'm sure.  OSU should pretty much waltz into the finals.

I'm surprised Cornell got the #7 seed and Illinois slipped to #8.  The coaches poll has Illinois as the higher ranked team.

yeah...I feel bad for Moore.  And I also would have liked to see some more Delgado vs McD

Don't feel bad for Moore.  He needs to man up.

I'm relieved McD won't face Delgado.  He'll have 2 more opportunities as it is with B1G and NCAAs.

So instead of having to face Delgado he has to face Garrett.

Should be a good match.  Garrett is 33-3 and his 3 losses are to Waters x2 and Mega.  Will be good for McD to see a different quality opponent.

I think McD will be fine against Nashon.

Minny/Vt is the most exciting first round match. VT conceivably could win 5, though that will be tough.  Ultimately Minnesota will be too much, but at 25,41,49,57 and 65 VT has a legitimate shot at winning.   Ness v Brascetta will be a good one for sure.  If Dong or Yates were able to get bonus AND they win all 5 of those matches it will at least make Minny sweat.

Ok, now that makes sense.  Not sure it's the right thing to do when you have a coaches poll that says otherwise, but at least I understand what they did and why.  Ultimately I like the end result as Iowa gets to see a different foe in the first round.

This could be an exciting dual and VT matches up fairly well against Minny.  I think the difference will be that Ness has a big match at 149.

Ha ... getting what he asked for might not really be what he wants though.

I know this is fan wishful thinking, but how cool would it be if Dake moved up to 174 and put a whupping on Evans?  THAT would be awsome to see - he did handle Brown from Lehigh pretty handily - a major decision I think.

They have always done this. Last year and in the old format as well.
