Another scenario...

High profile dual meet match. The team that prevails will be league champions.

Team A is up 5 points against Team B going into the last match.


Wrestler A (from Team A) and Wrestler B (from Team B) are two outstanding wrestlers and this is the marquee match.

Going into the third period, it is a hotly contested battle. Wrestler B is up 1 point with only a few seconds  to go against Wrestler A. Wrestler B is doing everything possible to try to get a turn, and with just a couple ticks left, Wrestler B relents, and decides to lock hands, to tie the match 8-8 to send it to overtime.

In Sudden Victory overtime, Wrestler B lateral tosses Wrestler A straight to his back early in the period....Wrestler B gets the full 5 second count and is working for the pin and victory for his team. Wrestler A looks straight at his bench and you notice in the corner of your eye, the coach mouths, "tap" as he is tapping his calf. Moment later, Wrestler A taps out.

What do you do here with this unique situation?

Short version?  How can I see him tapping when I'm looking for the pin?  Oh, and hey... there it is.

As you can see Ray is....let's say...not a fan of tapouts.

Great question.....the wrestler getting pinned was in a position where he was on his back, but no where close to getting pinned at this junction, and it just caught the corner of your eye....

The rules don't define a "tapout".

 If a wrestler “taps out”, this will be considered as an indication of an injury; therefore if nearfall criteria are imminent or are being met, the “scream rule” will be applied and the wrestler will be charged an injury time out. If in the referee’s judgment, the wrestler “tapped out” just to get out of a pinning situation, unsportsmanlike conduct may be called.
