Hurricane Dorian
« on: September 01, 2019, 03:36:54 PM »
For something that was a small tropical storm a week ago that was only pedicted to be a cat 1 storm before making landfall, this thing has turned into a monster, with sustained winds of 185 miles per hour.  My heart goes out to the people of the Bahamas.  They're getting pounded right now.

I encourage everyone to give to the disaster relief for victims of this storm.  I know I will.

I'm not sure if Dorian is a guy or gal, but the Euro model shows it skirting the eastern seaboard and not making landfall other than possible the Outer Banks of NC. Cat 5 as it approaches the Florida coast but continuing as a full blown hurricane up through VA.  If it stays offshore, it will sustain winds over 100 MPH with the winds on the northwestern edge causing the most damage.

This menace could prove to be the most expensive yet if it holds that track damaging every coastal town and city from West Palm to Norfolk.

Best wish right now is for the Highs out in the midwest to push east and push Dorian out into the Atlantic which would put Bermuda as the new target.

I have a lot more faith in the Euro model every since it predicted Sandy's entry into NJ within 1 mile, 8 days before landfall.

Even numbered storms (like Dorian, storm #4) have male names this year.

Geez, Bahamas still taking it on the chin.  He's been stalled over the island for almost 10 hours.

Looks like the Euro model is spot on again skirting the coastline as he heads towards the Outer Banks, NC.

And I know for sure that Dorian Gray is male.

Betcha 99.5% of the home on those islands were stuck with a coastal wind and flood exclusions on their insurance.  They're looking at rebuilding an entire country, infrastructure on up.

That's what I was thinking too, when I got to the point where I couldn't see any land in any direction.
