I forgot I went to a wrestling camp where three time NCAA champ LaMoin Merkley was running it with his brother VerNon Merkley.  I don't think it was Div I competition and it was late 60's.  So I would add him to them mix.

Randy Couture did his HS wrestling in WA so add him.

Kevin Roberts also is from WA.

Kirk White also is from WA.  I loved watching him wrestle.

The NJ list I have may surprise a few with the omissions, but here goes.

Mike Caruso, Lehigh 3X champ in the era when frosh could not participate
Steve Mocco, 2X champ, 2X 2nd, Hodge
Jordan Burroughs, Nebraska, 2X champ, Hodge
Darryl Burley, Lehigh 2X champ, 2X 2nd

If there is any futue construction, it will tough to decide amongst these 3
Chris Campbell, Iowa, 2X champ
Gene Mills, Syracuse, 2X champ
Mike Frick, Lehigh, 2X two-time National Champion, OW in1975, and beat 7 past or future NCAA Champions at five different weight classes along the way.

So why do some states do well but others don't.  I mean why NJ and PN do so well?  Why not MN.  When I was there those kids are tough and they are a lot tougher than kids out here I think.  OR has some standouts where WA not so much.  CA has a few notables like the Schultz bros, and Stephen Neal, Abas etc.

I declare here and now that Gable was from WA, and same with JB and KS!!!

So it is written so it is done!!

I'm NOT including Wayne Boyd (Temple) for consideration.

As was Franklin Gomez.  I only made that notation for Gardner because he isn't as famous as the others on my list.
