The 2022-2023 season will be Shane Griffith's final season at Stanford.   Due to rules in place at Stanford University that will be his last year of collegiate athletic eligibility - as I understand it (see Nathan Traxler as an example) - however like Nathan Traxler Shane Griffith will have the option to compete elsewhere for the 2023-2024 season.

Nathan Traxler competed for five seasons at Stanford beginning with the 2016-2017 wrestling season.  His fifth and final season for Stanford was the 2020-2021 season.  And because of the rules at Stanford which limit the amount of time one can compete at Stanford he was forced to transfer to Virginia Tech for the 2021-2022 season.    AS I UNDERSTAND IT Shane Griffith will have to do likewise IF he chooses to wrestle after this 2022-2023 season is over.

Nathan Traxler's wrestling career consisted of the following

2016-2017 season - Traxler redshirted at Stanford

2017-2018 season - Was Traxler's RS Freshman season at Stanford where he went 19-17 overall at 197 lbs - finished 3rd at the PAC 12 tournament & went 2-2 at the NCAA tournament

2018-2019 season - Was Traxler's RS Sophomore season at Stanford where he went 30-7 overall at 197 lbs and was the 2019 PAC 12 champion at 197 lbs & made it to the NCAA round of 12 at the 2019 NCAA tournament

2019-2020 season - Was Traxler's RS Junior season at Stanford where he went 20-5 overall at 197 lbs & was the 2020 PAC 12 runner-up at 197 lbs & was an NCAA qualifier but there was no NCAA tournament

2020-2021 season - Was Traxler's RS Senior season at Stanford where he went 9-4 overall at 285 lbs & was the 2021 PAC 12 runner-up at 285 lbs & was an NCAA qualifier where he made it to the NCAA round of 12 at the 2021 NCAA tournament

2021-2022 season - Traxler was forced to transfer elsewhere because of Stanford's rules and he chose to transfer to Virginia Tech. He took 1st place at the 2022 A.C.C. wrestling tournament at 285 lbs & he went 2-2 at the NCAA tournament

Shane Griffith's wrestling career at Stanford has - to date - consisted of the following:

2018-2019 season - Was Griffith's true Freshman season at Stanford and he was redshirted & compiled an overall record of 25-2 at 165 lbs while being redshirted

2019-2020 season - Was Griffith's RS Freshman season at Stanford where he went 28-0 overall at 165 lbs & was the 2020 PAC 12 champion at 165 lbs.  He was an NCAA qualifier but there was no NCAA wrestling tournament in 2020

2020-2021 season - Was Griffith's RS Sophomore season at Stanford and he went 12-1 overall competing at both 165 and 174 lbs.  He was the 2021 PAC 12 runner-up at 165 lbs (Lost to Anthony Valencia 7-1 in the PAC 12 championship match).  He also was the 2021 NCAA champion at 165 lbs

2021-2022 season - Was Griffith's RS Junior season at Stanford & he went 19-5 overall at 165 & 174 lbs.  He was again the PAC 12 runner-up at 165 lbs (lost to Evan Wick in the PAC 12 championship match).  But he went on to finish the 2022 season as the NCAA runner-up at 165 lbs becoming only the 2nd Stanford wrestler to ever compete in two NCAA championship matches.

2022-2023 season - Will be Griffith's RS Senior season but due to the cancelled 2020 NCAA tournament he will have the option to return for another season somewhere other than Stanford in 2023-2024

2023-2024 ?????
