Challenge: Find the Mission

Here's a tricky one:  can you find USA Wrestling's mission statement on their website?  (I do have it, by the way.)

Yeah, I found that too... two-thirds of the way down an article from almost a year ago.  It seems to suggest that they changed their mission statement to:

Quote
USA Wrestling, guided by the Olympic spirit, provides quality opportunities for its members to achieve its full human and athletic potential.

Which, besides not making any mention of our sport, is ungrammatical.  Up to that point, the mission statement was:

Quote
USA Wrestling, as the National Governing Body for wrestling in the United States, shall responsibly advocate, promote, coordinate and provide opportunities for amateur wrestlers to achieve their full human and athletic potential.

Of course, the fact that there's any doubt or difficulty in the matter is the bizarre part.

Having ben through corporate restructuring my guess is they were looking for a more succinct statement. Technically, USA wrestling uses the word wrestling so I figure that suffices for them. I agree it sounds dopey and "the Olympic Spirit" is kind of a "feel good, we're just one happy family" statement. Sometimes in the search for brevity we screw everything up!!

I think the great triumph of brevity, here, is not featuring the mission statement on their webpage at all.

Overall, I agree.  Removing what is unnecessary is very good, but there's a difference between clipping your fingernails and clipping your fingertips.  But I didn't mean the "Olympic spirit" pablum, or "quality opportunities" (which makes me queasy).  USA Wrestling "quality opportunities for its members to achieve its full human and athletic potential"?  I suppose USA could be saying their mission is to give members the opportunity to help USA Wrestling... but that kind of honesty isn't generally apropos to non-profit mission statements.  Though it would certainly be in keeping with the spirit of the Olympic administration, these days.

Since we are on the topic of mission statements I was curious if we could have TOM's.

Also, where do you invision this site in 3-5 years?  If and only if, it isn't covered in the mission statement.
