Request for Information: Fargo Teams
« on: December 04, 2009, 04:05:18 PM »
Since we have folks here from all over, I'd like to try to collect some information which I'm not sure anyone has compiled before.

Team information for cadet/junior nationals 2009:

What state are you documenting?
What was the qualification process to get to cadet or junior nationals?
How much did athletes pay to go?
How much more was it to go both styles?
Were there exceptions?  (e.g. state champs pay less)
How did the team get there?  (e.g. bus, plane, lots of motorcycles, etc.)
Where did you stay?
How did the team get back and forth to the venue?

Feel free to add any additional information which might be of interest, or clarify your answers.  Please don't estimate, though; I need solid numbers.

Update: I added the question, "what state", to make sure people mention it.

Team information for cadet/junior nationals 2009:

What state are you documenting? Indiana

What was the qualification process to get to cadet or junior nationals?
Qualification: Top 3 Place Finishers at Indiana FS and GR State Finals
Top 3 Finishers at any Regional Championship in style
Top 3 Finishers at the FILA JR. or FILA Cadet World Championships in style

How much did athletes pay to go?
Juniors: $775 - Cadets: $750

How much more was it to go both styles?
$150

Were there exceptions? (e.g. state champs pay less)
No! The Indiana High School Athletic Association does not allow rewarding individual athletes based on their placement. They consider this paid for performance. The ISWA designates $40,000 to offset the cost of team trips. This amount is used to offset the cost of the trip for all wrestlers.

How did the team get there? (e.g. bus, plane, lots of motorcycles, etc.)
Chartered Bus

Where did you stay?
On Campus at NDSU

How did the team get back and forth to the venue?
Walk

What state are you documenting? Oregon

What was the qualification process to get to cadet or junior nationals? Top 2 at State Tournament or Regional Qualifier. Then if spot open, petition in.

How much did athletes pay to go? $1500. Majority of the cost is the plane ticket. We also gave them meal money for dinner each day when we got there.

How much more was it to go both styles? Just the entry fee.

Were there exceptions? (e.g. state champs pay less) No exceptions. In the past, OR used to do this when we had the huge OR Cultural Exchange fund(now the Dale Thomas Endowment Fund for OSU wrestling). We are considering doing this again.

How did the team get there? (e.g. bus, plane, lots of motorcycles, etc.) Flight to Minneapolis, then bus to Fargo.

Where did you stay? Hotel on other side of Fargo, by the Mall.

How did the team get back and forth to the venue? We rented vehicles and coaches drove them back and forth.

I'd like to thank everyone who has answered so far... particularly Infolady, who seems to have created an account here for the purpose of helping.

So far we have:  Indiana, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and New York.
